Today is Mother's Day in the Netherlands and Belgium. In many parts of the world, Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday in May. In the diocese of Antwerp, Mother's Day has been celebrated since 1913 on August 15 (Our Lady's Assumption, Sainte-Marie or Mother's Day).

In families celebrating Mother's Day, this day is all about spoiling mother. She usually gets breakfast in bed and gifts. She is exempt from household chores. Sometimes the younger children at school or daycare have made gifts.

Mother's Day is also celebrated in Thailand, but on August 12 (a national holiday). Mother's Day is celebrated on Queen Mother Sirikit's birthday. Mother's Day in Thailand has been celebrated on Sirikit's birthday since 1976. The Queen Mother has not appeared in public independently for a number of years, following her severe stroke in 2012. Her current health is rarely reported.

Many think that Mother's Day is a commercial event, conceived by entrepreneurs and retailers to generate some extra sales. That is not correct. Mother's Day goes back to the mother cult in classical Greece. The formal mother cult with ceremonies for Cybele or Rhea, the Great Mother of the Gods. Popularly stated, Mother's Day or Mother's Day has its origins in ancient Greece. There, not so much the ordinary mothers were put in the spotlight, but Rhea, the mother of the gods, was honored. The Catholic Church, of course, also has a long tradition of worshiping Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Due to the corona crisis, this Mother's Day is not really a holiday. The elderly are extra vulnerable and therefore often cannot receive visitors. Visiting grandma with the whole family is therefore not an option.

The current Mother's Day came over from America at the beginning of the last century. The woman who advocated for it later tried to abolish Mother's Day because of its commercialization.

Whose deed. Father's Day is of course celebrated on December 5, when we invest extra in the Watt. Something for everyone!

In addition, it is no longer of this time. Many men perform care tasks, emancipation is present in all areas. Don't we all need a special thank you for that? We like to do it for each other, don't we?
