In line with the annual theme 2017 'The power of the personal story' of the National Commemoration and Celebration of Liberation on 4 and 5 May respectively, the five-part documentary 'Every war grave has a story' is currently being broadcast again.

In this documentary, commissioned by the War Graves Foundation (OGS), relatives of Dutch war victims speak.

In episode 4 of this documentary, next of kin speak of Dutch people who are buried in the Fields of Honor in Thailand and Australia. In Thailand, these are mostly Dutch people who died during the construction of the Burma railway line. This episode also features former second embassy secretary Nick Peulen and former defense attache for Thailand Allard Wagemaker. The current chairman of the NVT Bangkok Jaap van der Meulen can also be seen.

The embassy will host the annual commemoration of Japan's surrender and the end of World War II in Asia on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the War Cemetery in Kanchanaburi. Information about this will follow at a later date.
