At the end of July we announced on this blog the appointment of a new Belgian ambassador, see www.thailandblog.nl/expats-en-pensionado/new-ambassadeur-van-belgie-in-bangkok

Mrs. Sybille de Cartier has now reported her arrival in Bangkok on the Facebook page of the Belgian embassy as follows:

Hello dear friends of Belgium

I arrived in Thailand on September 13 and I am honored to be able to serve as (destined) Belgian ambassador for Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos after the mandatory quarantine period.

I look forward to working with the great team at the Embassy, which has recently undergone some adjustments.

As an Embassy, we continue to strive to serve our citizens in the best possible way and to strengthen the relations between Belgium and the four countries for which we are responsible on a political, economic, social and cultural level.

My family and I are very happy to have arrived in the working area and look forward to getting to know the people of the four countries and their treasures soon.

Hope to meet soon,

Sybil de Cartier

Ambassador of Belgium

Dear Mrs. Sybille, the Belgian compatriots who already reside in Thailand and the surrounding countries, wish you a pleasant and healthy stay in Thailand and a very pleasant working atmosphere. I hope that the talks with the Thai Government, in connection with the bilateral agreement with Belgium, have not been forgotten by the Covid 19 virus and can be resumed soon, so that many pensioners already residing in Thailand can finally continue to enjoy Belgian health care after all, for which they have paid all their careers. My 2 Belgian children would finally get what they are now being denied, namely “Child money” because since 2014, my wife (with the Belgian Nationality, as well as the children.) no longer receives child money. Because she has chosen to return to Thailand after a stay of 8 years in Belgium, to take care of her totally dependent mother, due to dementia of Alsheimer's disease. Thank you in advance. Kind regards.
