Thailand will intensify cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to transform the country into a regional aviation hub.

The agreement was announced by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha after talks with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar. The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of civil aviation and stressed that the nation is constantly working to expand its capacity and ensure sustainable growth according to ICAO standards.

General Prayut also said Thailand is determined to become the center of aviation activity in the region. Secretary-General Salazar said that ICAO recognized Bangkok as one of the world's major destinations for trade and tourism.

Both the Thai Prime Minister and ICAO Secretary General agreed that more cooperation is needed to revive the sector. The two also discussed other collaborations and possible participation in the ICAO Air Navigation Commission in the near future.

The main characteristic of regional transport (by air) is that it is usually point-to-point (P2P). I therefore find a “hub” remarkable. Perhaps this means to be able to fly directly from Phuket via Bangkok to, for example, Kuala Lumpur. But I think the limitation in this lies mainly with the airlines themselves.

But if the plan involves flying from Kuala Lumpur via Bangkok to Bombay, for example, then the plan will not work. Then you just fly P2P
