Travelers voted Amsterdam Airport Schiphol the best airport in Western Europe at the World Airport Awards 2014 in Barcelona. Schiphol ranks fifth in the world ranking.

'It is a nice recognition of the performance of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the airlines. Leaning back satisfied, however, is not an option. Developments are going at lightning speed, the competition is gaining strength almost every day.

In the interest of the traveler we therefore invest heavily in the quality and capacity of our infrastructure. On average, this amounts to 1,5 million euros per day. In 2014, 2015 and 2016. This is how Schiphol Group continues to anticipate and invest in a powerful, hospitable mainport,' says Maarten de Groof, Executive Vice President & CCO.

Travelers once again praise travel comfort

Schiphol remains an attractive choice for European and intercontinental travellers. This is partly due to the good self-service facilities and the high-quality range of (new) facilities. And this with a rapid growth in the number of travelers in recent years.

Skytrax

The World Airport Awards are seen as the global benchmark that charts the quality of airports according to travelers. For the 2014 Awards, Skytrax surveyed more than 12 million travelers from 110 countries about the quality of 410 airports around the world. The independent investigation has been carried out since 1999.

It tells me more about the voters than about the airport. This is also because most travelers are vacationers who do not fly to major international airports, but often only fly to vacation destinations. Without mentioning other airports here, Schiphol is not on my list at all.

Dear top Martin, what nonsense you are proclaiming!!! When I read a comment like this I don't know how to take you seriously! It is also so childish because it is your opinion, but apparently not of the many tens of millions that visit Schiphol every year. Schiphol holidaymakers, hahaha.....Schiphol is a very important airport to transfer to all, as you call it, large international airports and therefore one of the most important strategic airports in Europe for all international top airlines and make no mistake, Schiphol is large and Amsterdam ditto among the "holidaymakers" and the business people, oh they avoid Schiphol, pfff!

I eagerly await your link that Schiphol is a holiday airport, a link!!!
That link will not be there, I'm convinced of that! Writing is fun, now your substantiation please?

Just read what it says before responding. First of all, I would like to point out that Schiphol was only chosen as the best airport in Europe and not the best in the entire world. He or she who has landed more often (me all my life) at other airports in the world, knows that Schiphol is far from top. Examples abound. It is therefore small of a mind that you want to have everything proven with the help of a link. You are implying that only what is in the I-Net is true?. A strange point of view for me. For that reason you will not receive a link.

You can see, for example, how things can be much better at the Atlanta-USA airport. The traveler who comes by car, for example, is directed miles in advance with very large signs to the entrance of the hall and the parking lot closest to the counter of the airline he is flying with. For example, you simply follow the name KLM or Air France

So he or she flying from Atlanta for the first time will find their way perfectly in No-Time. There, Schiphol and the FRA I mentioned would go and see how it can be done.

@top martin, Every time I notice that when something positive is said about the Netherlands or Schiphol on the Thailand blog, this immediately acts as a red rag on many Thailand bloggers with rose-colored glasses. In contrast, no criticism is tolerated of Bangkok airport or Thailand in general. Did you know that business travelers had chosen Schiphol as the pleasant/best airport and not (stupid, that's how your derogatory comment comes across to me) holidaymakers? I had already expected such a reaction, of course, there are no tourists at Bangkok airport, only business travelers. Thailand is not a holiday destination at all. I think Schiphol is a pleasant airport and where you can reach every corner without having to use shuttle buses or trains like at other airports. The signage system is very good and the Dutchman who designed the signage at Schiphol also designed the signage of New York, Abu Dhabi, Athens and Frankfurt.

No tourists to Bangkok? To my understanding you have never been to BKK airport!

Dear Henk, I don't think you read the irony very well!

And in my opinion you do not know what sarcasm is. Because if you read his response properly, it is clear to me

That must be the reason, for example, that there is a lot of comment in Frankfurt on the fact that the connection between hall A_B_C to hall D_E is so difficult to find. That especially for those people, who start from Frankfurt for the first time?.
This also applies to the parking system in the parking flats. Researchers from FAZ have calculated that if you park incorrectly (not knowing) it will take you almost 42 minutes to reach your flight counter in hall DE. Nice if you are already a bit late.

FRAPORT says that you can see via the Internet where you have to park. Great for older people who don't have I-Net or who can't handle it. Or for foreigners who cannot understand=read I-Net German. And there the signposts would have been made by the same man who also did Schiphol?. Great work.

The fact that this is faster at Schiphol is only due to the fact that Schiphol is much smaller. Smaller doesn't always mean better? I went to Schiphol with a colleague from Venezuela. Was he happy that I could translate Dutch for him?

Schiphol is simply an excellent airport. The building feels 'small'. Many runways and runways. You don't have to fly many laps to land. You don't have to wait 30 to 45 minutes to get started like at JFK or London H. What I don't like is that there are no separate departure/arrival floors yet. Groups of passengers still sometimes bump into each other. This will soon be resolved after the renovation. Staff is quite friendly. Sometimes a few extra counters are open for passport control upon arrival. Or just scan more yourself. I am a budget flyer and not a business traveler.

If you think Schiphol is top, I assume that you have not seen many other airports. Because otherwise you would judge very differently. Schiphol is Dutch, small, crooked and not built for expansion from the start. Typically Dutch.

Take a look at Düsseldorf, just to stay nearby. That's more like night and day difference. Or a little further, for example in Orlando, which is located in the middle of a park. Or Atlanta? Or Beijing, Dubai etc.

For that reason I would like to see the questionnaire, which would lead you to find Schiphol at the top of this top list?. I think the only question was: at which airport do people speak Dutch.

In my opinion, Schiphol is a beautiful and efficient airport, the only thing that has been a drama in my eyes for years is the baggage handling upon arrival, having to wait more than an hour for your suitcase several times. And it doesn't matter if you arrive with many other flights or if there is no one to be seen at other baggage carousels, it is always a drama. Arriving at BKK is coming home for us and would like to kiss the ground like the previous pope, until you get to passport control, in 2012 it was the last time for me, we queued for more than 2 hours and then think you, there must be someone who orders that more counters have to be opened, but no, no one will come up with that, but well once you step out of the hall and the cone of heat collides with your body, you immediately forget your annoyance again and you will enjoy this wonderful country.
