Dusseldorf Airport, easily accessible for Dutch travelers in the border region, expects more than a million travelers around the Christmas holidays. Many passengers use this holiday to fly from the German airport to sunnier places. Sunday 6 January will probably be the busiest day.

According to the airport, Turkey and the Canary Islands are the most popular destinations in Europe. Bangkok and the Caribbean are in demand as faraway sun destinations, as are Dubai and Abu Dhabi. London, Vienna, Paris, Madrid and New York are popular destinations for a city break.

Düsseldorf Airport suffered from the bankruptcy of airberlin as the largest carrier, but the Lufthansa budget subsidiary Eurowings has taken over most of the routes, so the airport is still busy.
