Dear Ronnie,

Is the equivalent of 800k Thb in euros on an FCD (foreign currency deposit) from a Thai bank accepted on non-immigrant visa extension?

Maybe the answer is already somewhere on this blog, but I couldn't find it soon.

Sincerely,

Rob

Dear Rob,

You mean, of course, an annual extension of your period of residence. You cannot extend the Non-immigrant “O” visa itself.

Actually, the line just says “…fund deposited in a bank in Thailand of no less than THB 800,000”. Some immigration offices will conclude that it must be TBH. Others will accept an FCD with an equivalent of at least THB 800 as long as it is held in a bank in Thailand.

It's a bit like immigration offices accepting or not accepting current and/or savings accounts. You should check that locally. In Bangkok it is accepted, I recently read on a forum.

The rules for how long the amount must be in the bank will be the same. I don't know what the control at an FCD will look like. Maybe they tell you that you can't drop below a certain amount in Euro.

I think it would be good to keep an eye on the exchange rates, or to put enough money on it to absorb larger exchange rate fluctuations.

Perhaps something to take into account or ask for information about so that you are not faced with surprises.

Let us know what the result was.

Regards,

RonnyLatYa
