Dear Ronnie,

This week I went to the Thai embassy twice to obtain a non-immigrant visa for 90 days: 1 entry. The first time they said they couldn't process it because I didn't have a bank statement stating balance with me. OK, will.

Went back today with bank statement. Balance around € 12.000 Was not enough again. Now a statement of retirement was requested. I have not, because I am only 63 years young. I have not worked for several years now. During a reorganization at the company where I worked, I received some money and put it away in two bank savings accounts. I now receive a monthly benefit from that. About 1800 euros net.

I also showed those payments on my bank statement. But no, it really wasn't enough. They say they need a statement of retirement.

What to do now? Does anyone have experience with that?

Thanks for the comment!

Lex

Dear Lex,

If they don't accept it, I would try the Thai Consulate in Amsterdam.

If they are also difficult because you have not really retired yet, I would try Essen, or you can of course go straight to Essen.

According to what I often read, they don't make a fuss about whether you are actually retired or not. (Shouldn't matter either).

Otherwise, a “Tourist visa” is also a solution of course. You can also extend the 60 days that you get with a “Tourist visa” by 30 days (1900). This is how you can also get your 90 days.

You don't specify how long you want to stay and whether or not you eventually want to get a year extension or not, so I won't go into that either.

Regards,
