Dear editors,

Because the visa file has not yet been amended with regard to the new Tourist Visa, I want to know whether the new Tourist Visa is sufficient for a stay of 6 to 7 months in Thailand? Of course with visa run(s) and extensions.

With kind regards,

Henk

Dear Henk,

With the new METV (Multi Entry Tourist Visa) you should even be able to bridge a period of almost 9 months. Not uninterrupted, of course, because the necessary "border runs" and an extension are needed. Moreover, you will also lose a few days due to the application, presentation and the time to travel to Thailand, but I think that an 8,5 month should be quite feasible in practice.

The METV is valid for 6 months and with each entry you get 60 days of stay. At least every 60 days, so a "border run". To get the most out of your visa you can make one last “border run” just before the end of the validity period (perhaps take a few days before to avoid surprises such as illness, closures or whatever).
You will then obtain a final stay of 60 days with that visa, so that you already bridge a period of almost 8 months with that visa. Nobody has experience with it at the moment, but normally you should be able to extend that last period of 60 days at immigration by 30 days. (Costs 1900 Baht)

At the moment I don't see any reports that this is not possible. With that last extension you could stay in Thailand for almost 9 months (in theory). This visa is therefore sufficient for 6-7 months. Requirements to obtain the new visa. Tourist Visa Multiple Entry:

Apparently you will also have to prove the first exit…. at least that's what it says. At the moment I do not know anyone who has submitted the application and I am therefore waiting for the first experiences with this.
