Dear editors,

For the visa, one must have 800.000 in a bank book and this for more than 3 months. We now have two separate booklets for men and women. Hence my question: what about a married couple? Is it possible to have 1.6 million on a booklet and this booklet in both names?

Thank you very much for the answer.

Louise

Dear Louise,

Normally, as a foreign married couple, you must each be able to present a bank account with at least 800 Baht each time and this for at least 000 months before the application (3 months at the first renewal). This is what you have now I understand.

Joint accounts were also accepted in the past, but I am not sure if that is still possible. Then they even accepted a joint account with 800 Baht. One time the man went to immigration with this as proof of his renewal, and then the woman went with the same bill for her renewal. She used the same 000 Baht as proof. That was possible then because people looked no further. Apparently they wanted to stop this and that is why, since 800, an invoice must be submitted by each (of course I also know that you can still transfer from one account to the other, but then there will be at least 000 months between the two extensions). have to sit).

Whether it has actually been done with those joint accounts in the meantime, I am certainly not going to argue. This is Thailand and each immigration office does its own thing so it may well be that it will still be accepted. Maybe if there is at least 1600 000 Baht on it, who knows. It is best to ask at your immigration office.

I searched around and found these articles. Is about your question. At the end of 2013 the following article appeared in the newspaper: pattayatoday.net/news/latest-edition/visa-restrictions-for-married-couples/ Visa restrictions for married couples.

A similar question was asked here and they replied that it is not possible: pattayatoday.net/property-business/legal-advice/thailand-retirement-visa/ see the questions – “Could the foreign husband and wife us a bank account with their combined name for this purpose ?”
and “Does this mean we, as foreign couples, are reuired to submit evidence of a total of at least 1.6 M Baht in our Thai bank accounts ?”

Good luck and let us know if it is accepted. We may be able to help others with that information

Regards,

RonnyLatPhrao
