Questioner: Peter

Apply for a visa for NON OA. I want to leave for Thailand and live there in the Udon Thani area, but I need a Non-Immigrant Visa “OA” (Long Stay) for that. The Thai embassy does give a laundry list of what I should have, but where I should get it is not entirely clear to me. Several questions:

  • bank statement that there is more than 800K baht on it, I do have it in the Netherlands, but not (yet) in Thailand.
  • can I also arrive, is that sufficient?
  • extract birth register, can I arrive at the municipality I hope in English, but does that still have to be legalized?
  • extract from registration in the Netherlands, can I arrive via the municipality, must that also be legalized?
  • proof of good behavior, same story, should that also be legalized?
  • medical statement that I have no disease from the list they provide, how do I get it and how do I legalize it?
  • what else do i need?
  • and, what is the best insurance for living in Thailand?

After leaving I actually had no intention of coming back to the Netherlands. So it will have to be an insurance policy that will continue to work until my ……90+ maybe.

Thanks for answering. I hope you have a simple list that clears up a few things.

– You will not currently receive a visa to go to Thailand. You will have to wait for the embassy or consulate to issue it again. The question then is whether the requirements will still be the same.

– If you can go to Thailand and want to stay there, it is better to apply for a Non-immigrant O Single entry. Much less demanding (at least now). Upon arrival you will then receive a residence period of 90 days. You can then extend it for another year

The website of the consulate in Amsterdam lists the current requirements and documents that you must submit:

You can of course also apply for this visa at the Thai embassy in The Hague. The consulate in Essen is also very popular in that respect. A bit further away, but you will also receive your visa after a few hours.
