Questioner: Rens

I wonder how people in the Netherlands can obtain a medical statement as required for an STV visa, since a general practitioner is certainly not allowed to sign your own general practitioner. see the websites of the interest group of general practitioners.

https://www.knmg.nl/advies-richtlijnen/dossiers/geneeskundige-verklaring.htm Why is your own doctor not allowed to issue a medical certificate? (Dutch medical certificate)

The requirements for an STV or regular tourist visa seem very difficult to me to make them all right. Can someone help us out?? After all, we are looking to go back to Bangkok soon to friends and our cat that we have been missing for longer than usual.

It's a real shame that I can't get a retirement visa yet, so I have to wait a few years before we can apply for it.

Had contact with the health insurer today, who could only give us a statement with the information that we are insured and that despite code orange we remain insured for Covid from basic insurance, without mentioning the amounts because this is not allowed by the NL government. (as known and written many times in other posts on thailandblog.nl)

I have asked Regelzorg and many other inspection bodies and sent me the document and have not yet confirmed or confirmed that they are allowed to sign this statement. If I receive a response from this I will of course share it

If there is anyone who knows of possibilities to obtain such a medical certificate and to fulfill the other obligations, I would be eternally grateful?

You don't say how long you want to go, but a regular tourist visa isn't difficult at all, is it? If that is sufficient for your stay, it is still easier to apply for it.

You must have applied for it before, because the STV is only something that has existed since the end of 2020.

Single-Entry Tourist Visa

Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months

Visa application form completely filled out

Recent passport-sized photograph (3.5 x 4.5 cm) of the applicant taken within the past 6 months

Bank statement showing adequate funds for your stay in Thailand

Health insurance covering medical expenses in Thailand including a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD for COVID-19 (must be specifically mentioned)

Tourism, Medical Treatment – สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเฮก (thaiembassy.org)

The listing on the website of

“A letter from a doctor/hospital in Thailand (for purpose of Medical Treatment in Thailand)” is only for travelers who would depart for Thailand for medical treatment. Not a requirement for the ordinary tourist.

But if you still choose the STV because you want to stay there for a longer period of time (longer than 90 days), as a Belgian I cannot help you on how to obtain that medical certificate in the Netherlands.

By the way, it is about the following statement Microsoft Word – medical certificate.doc (mfa.go.th)

Perhaps there are compatriots of yours who can help you with that.

Medical statement. I can help you a little further. The medical certificate is required by Thailand for a number of cases. Also for certain visas, including STV and OX visas. Also for work permits, for example. also for some who work internationally on ships. It explains that you do not suffer from a number of diseases that we hardly have anymore in the Netherlands. As you say, you cannot get them from your doctor. Not that weird. There is a fear that the GP/patient relationship will be disrupted if a GP does not want to do this, for many reasons. Of course, agency organizations such as insurance companies, etc. cannot issue this either. You have to look for the inspection agencies that are active in shipping or some hospitals. For example in Rotterdam, a large port city. A number of tests are needed. This should be done in a well-equipped lab. Just do some Googling.
By the way, you must also provide a statement of (good) conduct. This is called a statement of conduct in the Netherlands. also do some googling. You can apply yourself via justus, an executive organization of the Ministry of Justice. also do some googling. Good luck collecting all the papers and statements. This is really one of the most difficult visas.

    Hello Rens,

I submitted my health statement to my GP's assistant, with a note that I needed it for a long stay in Thailand. The next day I could collect it filled in and signed. Nowhere does it say that your own doctor should not do this. If your doctor does not want to do it, you can always look for an alternative.

    Regards, Pepe
