Questioner: Diana

We are considering going to Phuket in July and then traveling around Thailand. Is it true that the regular tourist visa (max 3 months) has much less strict requirements than the STV visa?

For example, there is also no obligation to show and book all hotel stays in advance. No return ticket? No forms to sign with regard to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.?

I'd love to hear it and thank you in advance.

Yes, an ordinary Tourist Visa (TR) has fewer requirements than an STV. You just have to put both next to each other…

Special Tourist Visa (STV) – สถานเอกอัครราชทูตณกรุงเฮก (thaiembassy.org)

You can also apply for a TR at the Consulate in Amsterdam

Visa explanation – Royal Thai Honorary Consulate Amsterdam (royalthaiconsulate-amsterdam.nl)

With a Tourist Visa (TR) you do not get a 3 month stay upon entry, but 60 days, which you can extend in Thailand by 30 days (1900 Baht).

I cannot confirm whether you need to present a return ticket in The Hague or Amsterdam. Then you need to inquire.

FYI: The STV ends at the end of September, ie you can only stay in Thailand until the end of September and according to my information this would not be extended.
