Questioner: Nico

Good day. I hope I am doing the right thing by submitting my question to you. Subject: Current situation annual visa Non-Imm O (ME) and 90 days border run.

It must be me, but I can't find any information about the current (impossible) situation of a (90 days) border run in combination with an annual visa Non-Imm O.

*My 1 year Non-Imm O Multiple Entry will expire on June 9, 2020.
*Last day for my approaching (90 days) border run (Mae Sai) is April 19, 2020.
* My plan is to fly back to NL on June 1 (if possible, of course). I have not yet purchased the flight at this time.

Has the Thai government published somewhere how I should act in this impossible situation in terms of making a border run? Is one of you in an identical situation and has already experienced how to act successfully?

Border runs are currently excluded. I don't think there's another border open. And even if a border were open, it would be next to impossible to get back in given the strict requirements.

You can extend your 90 days by 30 days at your immigration office. You will need a Covid-19 visa support letter.

See TB Immigration Info Brief 018/20: Covid-19 Letter of Support for Application Extension Period of Residence. – www.thailandblog.nl/dossier/visum-thailand/immigration-infobrief/tb-immigration-info-brief-018-20-covid-19-support letter-for-application-extension-stay period/

The 30-day extension following April 13 will not be sufficient until June 1, but you should ask immigration whether a second period of 2 days is possible and which procedure to follow. According to the guidelines, this should be possible as long as you cannot leave Thailand due to the Corona condition.

Of course, it always remains that, and if you meet the conditions, you can still apply for a year extension. You immediately feel at ease for a whole year.

If readers already have experience with that Corona extension of 30 days during this period, they can always share their experience.

Not quite the same situation, but I'll give it what it's worth. My non-O- multiple visa expires on April 14, my stay period expires on April 28. I stopped by Immigration (Mahasarakham) for information. I can come again on April 22 and then I will receive a 60-day extension. 1900THB. I give it with the necessary reservations and add that I was offered a one-year extension with a wink. 25000THB.

60 days ? Are you married perhaps?

Affirmative … and even with a Thai (who also has the Belgian nationality).

I thought so and explains the 60 days.
You can basically also obtain it in normal circumstances.
Your wife must then keep an address in Thailand.
          Can you apply under
2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality: Permission shall be granted for one time and no more than 60 days.

The fact that she has Belgian nationality has nothing to do with that, of course, but it can make her return to Belgium easier
          Is an advantage now.
My wife also has both nationalities. (Belgian nationality since 2007 if I remember correctly).

    FYI but not yet confirmed.

There is a proposal from Immigration to the Cabinet to grant every foreigner an extension until the end of June.
As soon as I get confirmation about that you will hear it too.

An unofficial translation of the proposal reads:

Due to the worsen situation of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic around the world including Thailand, where borders between countries are closed, while foreigners who have entered the Kingdom of Thailand for a temporary stay are unable to return to their domicile or leave the Kingdom, causing them to stay illegally in the Kingdom of Thailand violating the immigration law.

To mitigate the suffering among the foreigners, the Immigration Bureau hereby propose to the Cabinet in the meeting held on 24 March 2020 to consider the resolution that permits the Immigration Bureau in granting permission to foreigners an extension on a temporary stay in the Kingdom of Thailand in according to their visa type or the exemption for the visa as a result of border closure due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the fact that they are unable to return to domicile or leave the Kingdom, under the immigration law until 30 June 2020 or until the time frame as considered reasonable, as the case, may be. For your consideration
