The global development due to the COVID-19 virus has far-reaching consequences for the services of the Dutch embassies and consulates-general worldwide, including the external service providers, including the visa agencies.

This means that until at least April 6, 2020, no applications for passports, visa applications for short and long stays (provisional residence permit, mvv) will be accepted via embassies, consulates-general and visa offices.

Other services, such as DNA tests, identity testing, legalization of documents and 'basic civic integration exam abroad', will not take place during that period.

Q&As for long-stay visas (mvv)

The consular section of the embassy is closed. Can I collect my MVV?

No, Covid-19 has forced us to close all consular offices of the embassies and consulates general. You cannot collect an MVV during this period.

My appointment for the issue of an MVV has been cancelled. When can I get a new appointment?

For now, this is not possible until April 6. Depending on the situation, this can be adjusted later.

I am still at the beginning of my MVV application and I have to go to the embassy. Is there another way to submit my MVV application?

If you have a sponsor in the Netherlands, for example a family member, employer or educational institution, the sponsor can submit the application to the IND. You do not need to go to the embassy until the IND has made a decision.

There is no sponsor for a number of purposes of stay (orientation year for highly educated persons, Working Holiday Program and starters). You can then make an appointment to start your mvv procedure when the consular post reopens.

My MVV approval says that I must collect the MVV from the embassy within 90 days of approval. This period will expire soon. What should I do?

Due to Covid-19, all embassy and consulate general consulates are closed until April 6, this period may be extended. You can make an appointment as soon as the consular sections reopen.

The IND has agreed that you can collect your MVV within 180 days of the original date of approval, if you can demonstrate that you were unable to collect your MVV on time due to COVID-19 and/or the closure of the consulate.

I have a valid MVV to travel to the Netherlands. Does the travel ban apply to me?

The travel ban does not apply to holders of a long-stay visa or temporary residence permit (MVV). look at the Q&As for entering the Netherlands.

I have received an MVV visa, but due to COVID-19 I cannot travel to the Netherlands within the 90-day validity period of this MVV. What should I do?

You can make a new appointment as soon as the consular post is open again. Within 90 days of the expiry date of your MVV, the consular post is authorized to re-issue the MVV if you can demonstrate that you were unable to travel on time due to Covid-19.
