Schengen visa: Sustainable income for MVV

Dear editor,

I want to take my Thai wife to NL for longer than 90 days, she has passed her A1 integration test. I now have to show my income from Dutch source with a contract for the next 12 months.

I work in the oil/gas industry in Australia, for Australian agencies on a freelance basis. My income on an annual basis is more than enough and I can show annual statements from the last 3 years and I also have savings. I don't have a contract. No wages from NL source, is this a problem?

I have e-mailed the IND four times, they promise to e-mail back with an automatic reply, but that does not happen, I have called several times from Thailand to the Netherlands, but after waiting 20 minutes I am thrown out.

Does anyone know anything about this, thanks in advance,

Paul

Dear Paul,

Your income is sufficient, but you are not living in the Netherlands. The IND will want to see that you live or will be living in the Netherlands, as the requirement is that the foreign national moves in with the sponsor in the Netherlands.

In addition, they want to see that you have a sustainable income for the period of 1 year. The IND will undoubtedly want to know how you can live in the Netherlands and work in Australia. If you live in the Netherlands and are regularly in Australia for work, there is nothing to worry about.

If the situation is more complicated then I advise you to get hold of the IND via email, in my experience they always answer but that can take a few weeks. Or consult an immigration lawyer. There may also be someone on www.buitenlandsepartner.nl who has knowledge or experience with this situation.

Yours faithfully,

Rob V
