Prime Minister Prayut has issued a ban on the registration of new double-decker tour buses and announced stricter controls on passenger transport vehicles.

Prayut wants the Ministry of Transport to stop issuing permits for double-decker buses, because they are involved in many accidents. This is because the buses are often unstable and can tip over. Things often go wrong, especially when descending into mountainous terrain.

The current 20.000 double and single-decker buses that are higher than 3,6 meters and already in operation in Thailand must undergo a special test at a slope of 30 degrees. Buses that overturn are no longer allowed on the road.

Furthermore, Prayut wants all public transport vehicles to be equipped with GPS tracking. In this way, reckless driving behavior can be recognized. Tuk-tuks and city minibuses do not receive GPS tracking. Drivers who drive dangerously will lose their permit. Bus companies that use faulty equipment will also be dealt with more harshly.

The Land Transport Department (LTD) has announced that all buses registered from January 25 must have GPS. Buses that already have GPS must connect their system to that of the LTD before the end of the year.

That is putting the cart before the horse. Most accidents with those double-decker buses happen due to the careless driving of the drivers of those buses.

When I drive 110 km/h on the Highway, those buses rumble past me. Now those buses are blamed, but in many countries those buses are driving and there have been few accidents with them. But yes, the Thai bus drivers……….

Speed limiters in the minibuses with a maximum of, for example, 100 km and those who take more than the permitted amount of passengers with them (being crammed) will have their driver's license revoked. When using alcohol, hand in your driver's license after a breathalyzer test.
Only hard measures work, otherwise it will fall on deaf ears (hey what do you say).

Of course you can finally wake up too late. But then you are still too late (Mr. Prayut). And with a view to Thai public transport, much, much too late. Fighting on the highway by mini-bus driver, buses in Bangkok that drive completely without lights, etc. etc. We've seen it all on Thai TV, almost every day. It's not the double decker buses fault. It is the Thai who drives a vehicle on the public road. Often drunk, without a driver's license and valid insurance. It is high time that someone could translate the word, responsibility for your neighbor, into Thai and make it understandable to them. Because that's a big deal.

Prayuth was on TV again tonight and he has launched many good ideas on behalf of the cabinet, so it's not that. He tries to motivate the Thai to comply with the laws and that is a hell of a job. It is a large part of the Thai people that just mess around. The previous governments have also brought very little to the fore in terms of measures, legislation, etc. Were too busy fighting each other and will soon come to power again. I hold my heart already. Anything that can contribute to a safer Thailand should be applauded and not put down. A major problem is the supervision of compliance with all that is introduced in terms of legislation and regulations. The great weakness of this society is certainly in the financial corner, which means that there is a lot of corruption that frustrates many things and therefore does not allow it to succeed.
It seems almost an impossible task to be able to do the right thing. Prayuth called on his people this evening to come up with good ideas and not just keep making negative comments about anything and everything. I hope the Thai people have listened and not brushed aside, because only with a massive involvement for each other and the issues that play will eventually lead to improvement.
