'News from Thailand' is back from vacation
Today I will board the plane, on June 6 I will set foot on Thai soil again and on June 7 I will resume the News from Thailand section that you have missed in recent weeks. The question 'How was your holiday?' no one needs to ask, because I have already answered that in my series Message from Holland.
During my vacation, martial law was declared, followed by the coup. Why that couldn't have waited until I got back I don't know. I suspect evil spirits had a hand in it. They probably don't like journalistic snoopers.
Naturally, Thailandblog paid a lot of attention to martial law and coup; the messages scored a record number of readers, as the following overview shows (May 20-24).

From June 7th I will follow it all again from my pied à terre in Bangkok. Every morning at half past six, the newspaper deliverer brings the Bangkok Post and from that I make a selection of posts that are relevant for the blog readers in the Netherlands and Belgium, and expats and tourists in Thailand.
I'm looking forward to it. You too to read them?
Definitely good information. Keep it up. Rob
Welcome Dick, but prepare yourself for a warm, say hot, Bangkok. Only the temperature for now, because the rest is not too bad. Don't think there's much to see from your vantage point, so besides the Bangkok Post you'll have to play Tintin for more "indept" information for us readers at home and abroad.
Very good Dick, very fine and welcome home! “They” have taken it easy, no crazy or other jumps, but it is said that the big news will only start after June 7. Make your chest wet, which will not be of the air with the continuing high temperatures. Thank you again for all the work you will do!
Have a good trip in advance and welcome away, or back, but for me you're leaving, or does that sound rude?
I look forward to your daily coverage again, thanks!
Wouldn't it be something if they also pull the plug in The Hague now.
During the absence of the news section I regularly thought 'let's see what happened today', but that didn't happen. It's great that you can continue the section full of energy after this well-deserved break!
Have a good trip, I also returned the day before yesterday after a 2.5 week holiday in the Netherlands. The weather was reasonable to good in the Netherlands, but the last day it rained cats and dogs.
The A380 with a stopover of 3 hours in Dubai brought me neatly to Bangkok.
No traffic jams at immigration. From the airport take the airport link to Payathai, take the BTS to Victori monument and then take bus 166 to Pak Kret. The speed of this trip was amazing.
Didn't notice any change but that will show in the next few days.
'welcome home' Rob I look forward to your news translations!
@ vanderhoven That must be a typo: not Rob, but I make News from Thailand. My name is still Dick.
Just returned from Thailand and I would like to thank Thailandblog for the information they have provided in recent weeks about the 'situation' in Thailand. I have referred many family members, friends and other relatives to this site because they were concerned about the 'situation' 'Tourists on the run in Thailand' according to a Telegraaf headline and many other wild stories that appeared in the Dutch media. It was striking that Bangkok airport has probably appointed a new chief at the stamp post since my previous visit in November. All stamp booths were manned and the flow was good.
