Dear readers, here is a notice about responding to old postings and sending the newsletter.

Because some readers responded to old postings, we have decided to disable this option. New current articles appear daily on Thailandblog. Responding to 'old posts' is therefore of little use. As of today, the comment option on all old posts has been disabled. You can now respond to an article for a maximum of 30 days. That should be enough. When we repost an old posting, you can respond to that article again (again, a maximum of 30 days).

Sending newsletter

The editors of Thailandblog regularly receive questions from readers why they no longer receive the newsletter. We can say the following about this:

  • The sending of the e-mail newsletter is fully automatic.
  • We don't remove anyone from our file just like that.
  • We never block newsletter sending to individuals.
  • We cannot guarantee that you will receive the newsletter at all times.

The main reason that you no longer receive the newsletter is usually that the spam filter of your e-mail provider is blocking the newsletter. This mainly happens with Hotmail addresses, but it can also occur with other providers. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about that. Sometimes the newsletter suddenly ends up in your spam folder, pay attention to that. In short. if you no longer receive a newsletter, please first check the spam folder of your e-mail account. If necessary, contact your email provider. You can also just look at the homepage of Thailandblog.nl. All new articles are placed in reverse chronological order. The newest article is therefore always at the top.

E-mail address changes

We also regularly receive messages about a changed e-mail address. It's too much work for us because we have to adjust every time. You can easily do this yourself by first unsubscribing with your old e-mail address (at the bottom of the newsletter) and then registering again with your new e-mail address. You can do that at the top left of the Thailandblog homepage.

As for the automatic stop of the comment option for articles older than 30 days:
    – It's a pity for newcomers who come across an older article via internal browsing or googling and then want to make a nice contribution with a response in their enthusiasm. Think in particular of articles that are less topical, such as book reviews, or articles that are no longer current (an article that recommends seeing/not seeing a certain attraction, but has now turned around after 1-2 years and should or can no longer be visited by now).
    – Do you of course have the point that comments are quickly pushed out of the column with Latest Comments so that many readers will miss the fact that someone has made an extensive posting. He must then hope that there are others who happen to dive into an old article and come across the reaction.
    – So is the real point whether comments on old articles take up too much time from the moderator -because he encounters spam or other rubbish in them- and he is of course already busy.

Fortunately, old articles are regularly replaced, which can of course also be an excellent solution. Just repost more often and more "old" articles, new readers and old comers can respond again. 🙂

NB: I did notice that in some blogs about a (Dutch) visa the comment option was disabled, while there are many questions about people who do not exactly know what applies to them or how the procedures work out in practice. Fellow bloggers with theoretical knowledge and practical experience can then respond to this, although TB is of course not a helpdesk and for 100% certainty there is always the embassy or IND to answer questions (although the IND in particular sometimes has difficulty in consistently providing the same information). and give the correct answer to a question, I sometimes joke: 9 calls, 10 answers". visa application because there have been Dutch partners with a short fuse, also understandable but very unfortunate for the good, normal people).

I do agree with Rob V. but also understand it from your point of view.

However, I am a bit confused by the beginning of your article.

“Because some readers responded to old postings, we have decided to disable this option. New current articles appear daily on Thailandblog. Responding to 'old posts' is therefore of little use. As of today, the comment option on all old posts has been disabled. You can now respond to an article for a maximum of 30 days. That should be enough. You write that the response to old posts has been turned off because it makes little sense.
Good and clear, but what do you mean by the following text –
“When we repost an old posting, you can respond to that article again (again a maximum of 30 days)”.
Am I reading it wrong or are they contradicting themselves?
Or do you mean that the old article can be responded to again for 30 days, but it is impossible to respond to the old responses.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong and can you clarify it for me.

@ RonnyLadPhrao When an article is reposted, the (old) comments are automatically included and can therefore be responded to again. Clearly? By the way, have you already ordered 'The Best of Thailandblog', because it also contains texts from you. All information about ordering and payment can be found at: https://www.thailandblog.nl/bestel-boek-beste-van-thailandblog/

        Dick,

        This is clear.
Instead of previously being able to respond to all old postings, this is now only possible on reposted ones (30 days). Misunderstood but is clear now

I just got back to Thailand but have had the book for a few weeks now. I ordered it when I was in Belgium.
This now gives a wrong figure on the sales score Netherlands / Belgium – Thailand of course. 😉

Nice of course to find your own texts in the booklet. Was a pleasant surprise.

By the way, as agreed, I will start the Q&A and the accompanying article about visas from next week.

Understand the reason. However, wouldn't a better criterion be to stop commenting after a week has passed since the last comment? I would gladly have responded to a nonsensical comment - a factual observation! - by Dick van der Lugt about the active reading of the Thai.
