Buying a mobile phone in Bangkok is very simple. The choice is overwhelming and the price very favorable.

Thais love mobile phones it's in Thailand just like in the west an important gadget and status symbol. Especially the more expensive smartphones such as the iPhone and the BlackBerry are 'hot' in Thailand.

It can be beneficial to buy and use a new telephone especially for your holiday accommodation. Expats will also buy a Thai mobile phone soon after arriving in Thailand.

The best place for this is the fourth floor of the MBK (Mahboonkrong shopping centre) in Bangkok. There are also used telephones for sale in the shopping malls in Bangkok. The range is huge because Thai usually want the latest model. You will therefore hardly find mobile phones that can be distinguished from new.

Still, it is good to keep an eye on a few things if you are going to buy a phone in Bangkok. In this video from Tony he explains what to look out for.

Funny my first Thai cell phone I bought there 5 years ago a nokia 6210i. That thing still works.

Great place to feast your eyes. What Tony forgets to mention is that iPhones, for example, have different versions. The version in Asia does not have a built-in Wi-fi receiver in advance and will therefore not find any wireless networks.

As far as the price is concerned, it doesn't matter that much nowadays whether you buy a mobile phone here in the Netherlands or in Bangkok. It is mainly due to the unfavorable exchange rate of the euro.

Nevertheless, MBK is of course a mobile mecca 🙂

I also bought my mobile in MBK in 2007.
Just a simple Nokia of about 1000 baht.
I still use it when I go abroad. buy a SIM card from the country where I am, and hopsakee, I can call.
The upgrade was comical in Bangkok. Rarely did the 7/11 have a 300 baht top-up card.
    “only 100 baht madam! ”
Since I call quite a lot and for a long time, I need a lot of credit.
So that turned into scratches, scratches, and more scratches. About 10 cards of 100 baht.
But it is an easy system and never had any problems with it.

It is better to call via skype, it is free and you can see the head is also included and with 12call you can even charge it via credit card, I do not know the costs

Many phone shops can also transfer a higher amount from their phone to yours.

The first time I thought, gee, pretty cheap calling here, later the baths flew off, didn't understand anything until I realized that a very lovely girl also knew that trick of transferring and gratefully used it.

I have already had to buy a Thai Nokia charger 2 times, those bitches break on me.

A German tipped me off that he had bought a universal charger at 7 11 and was very satisfied with it.

and in addition to this just after I responded my girlfriend comes running with a card from 7 11 with 500 baht, they can print it out there for as much as you want

takes my mouse from my hand goes to ais on the computer and upgrades my card from 12call with 500 bath

so never too old to learn something

Then it has now changed with the top-up cards. In my time (haha), 2007 so you bought scratch cards.

Skype is indeed a good way, but since I sometimes spontaneously wanted to call my girlfriend or sister I couldn't wait to get back to the apartment.
I called at the craziest times. Also to tell the biggest nonsense.
And once I start texting, I keep going.
          I think that's typically a woman thing. 🙂

In addition, Skype was not really established in my friends and family circle 4 years ago
          .

I always have my phone 1-2 call topped up in a Hotel in BKK, you can have it topped up at most Hotels. I always do it for 1000B more or less. I bought an I phone 4 (imitation) at MBK for 2800B 3 years ago and it works perfectly, all the trimmings that an original has. Maybe I got lucky, they asked 5000B for it.
