Hans Goudriaan and the above signed were able to visit the Karenkinderdorp Pa Ka Yor near Pa La U again last week after months.

The level in the rivers near Pa Ka Yor has been too high in recent months to be able to pass by car, but since last week this has been possible again.

Slightly delayed, phase 12 of the Pa Ka Yor project will now be delivered on Saturday November 2 (original planning was mid-October). Phase two consists of renovating the dilapidated kitchen building.

As a reminder: Phase 1 took place in May of this year, during which the roof of the school building was replaced and the following goods were donated: 20 bags of cement for the construction of the walkway, fifty sleeping mattresses, generator, 2 batteries for solar collectors, 150 kg rice, 200 cans of tuna, chicks, DVD player for children's films, teaching and writing materials. Phase 1 involved an amount of 72.500 THB

The Karen themselves will demolish the existing kitchen facility this week. The corrugated iron roof has rusted through in many places and the wooden and bamboo walls are rotten and eaten away by a kind of woodworm.

The building materials (wooden beams, anti-fungal and anti-vermin products, aluminum roof plates and fasteners, tarpaulin as floor covering, etc. have now been purchased and transported to Pa Ka Yor, while the Karen will cut 200 bamboo poles in the nearby jungle for the walls of the kitchen.

At the end of this week and early next week, the kitchen will be rebuilt and we have now also brought an aluminum kitchen table with cupboards and drawers as well as a stainless steel gas stove with large burners to Pa Ka Yor. We also have yesterday 150 kg of rice, 200 cans of tuna and about eighty Thai Tupperware containers for food storage delivered.

Expenditure up to and including yesterday of the above matters: 45.000 THB, collected by Masonic lodge Heerlen, Lions in the Netherlands and readers Thailandblog.
