Yangon in Myanmar

Yangon in Myanmar

Thailand is of course beautiful, but a number of neighboring countries are certainly also. For example, visit Yangon (Rangoon) in Myanmar, formerly Burma, just an hour's flight from Bangkok.

With Nok Air you fly for less than 100 euros return from Bangkok (Don Muang) to Yangon in Myanmar.

Yangon is Myanmar's largest city and former capital. The city has about 4,5 million inhabitants and is located on the Rangoon River, close to the coast of the Gulf of Martaban. Yangon is home to the most important temple in Myanmar: the Shwedagon Pagoda.

The center is known for its leafy boulevards and fin de siècle architecture. The former British colonial capital has the most buildings from the colonial period in Southeast Asia. The center mainly consists of dilapidated colonial buildings. The former Supreme Court, the former Secretariat buildings and some hotels are good examples of a bygone era. Most downtown buildings from this era are four-story residential and commercial buildings. Despite their imperfect condition, the buildings remain highly sought after and expensive.

From Yangon with 3,5 hours taxi to the golden rock. You can also go by bus, but then you have to spend the night or leave very early and come back late. At the bottom of the mountain you have to take a seat in a small truck and it will take you up for a fee of 2000 kjat only. Beautiful view from above. Only problem is that from bottom to top of the mountain you see nothing but plastic in the side that is thrown out of the truck.

Myanmar/yangon has been renewed relatively quickly in a few years.
Previously no ATM, exchange on the market.
    Outdated taxis and guesthouses.
So the price has gone up quite a bit as well.
Culture and friendliness and helpfulness ideal for a trip.
Just get your visa in Bangkok at the embassy.
    Good for a city trip.

Worked for 6 months. Wonderful time and Yangon was fascinating to look around…
Even the Thai wife had a good time…
