The Jim Thompson house in Bangkok (museum)

Jim Thompsonn is a legend in Thailand. When you enter Bangkok staying is a visit to it Jim Thompson House recommended!

James HW Thompson was born on March 21, 1906 in Greenville, Delaware in the USA. Jim Thompson moved to Thailand in 1945. At that time, the Thai silk industry was completely at a standstill. In 1948 he founded the Thai Silk Company Ltd. and revitalized a languishing industry. Thompson's development of the Thai silk industry is often cited as one of the great success stories of post-war Asia. Even now you can still find shops with Thai silk under the name Jim Thompson everywhere, such as in Siam Paragon in Bangkok.

Collection

After arriving in Thailand, Jim started collecting antiques. Due to the size of his collection, he was looking for a suitable place to exhibit his art treasures. In 1958, he started to realize his plan. The construction of a museum annex house for his unique collection. For the construction he used six antique teak Thai houses from Ban Khrua and Ayutthaya. These were dismantled and moved to the current location in Bangkok, opposite the Bangkrua district, where the silk weavers who worked for him were once located. His collection was housed in various rooms in the house.

It took almost a year to realize his dream. His collection, which spans fourteen centuries, is largely as it was when he mysteriously disappeared in 1967. Some objects in his collection are very rare, such as the headless but elegant 7th-century Dvaravati Buddha and a 17th-century teak Buddha from Ayutthaya. When the Jim Thompson House was completed in 1959, the international press described it as "one of the wonders of the East."

To this day, Jim Thompson's house/museum is one of the major tourist attractions in Bangkok.

Been there the day before yesterday. You can also get there via the klongs. Very busy but tours are very efficient. The restaurant has very long waiting times during lunch hours, even if you just want a drink. Buy my silk tshirts there. Is an investment because it will remain in perfect condition for years to come. A matter of not growing out of it..

I have a very funny and funny memory of the Jim Thomson House: a few years ago I was there with my Thai girlfriend and my sister. I was 55 at the time and my girlfriend 25. A shocking age difference to some, but my girlfriend also looked 10 years younger than she really was because she's short.
the Thompson House can only be viewed in groups led by (female) guides.
It is indeed very interesting and there is a lot to see.
For us, our group, however, this went completely wrong because our guide already burst into an uncontrollable laughter at the first room after a few minutes and tried to recover from it, but failed to do so until the end of the tour. Lots of excuses in between, of course, but she couldn't manage not to burst into uncontrollable laughter every time.
At the end of the tour I asked her why she was laughing so much.
After some insistence, the high word came out: sorry, sorry ,sorry but every time i saw you and your girlfriend i thought about you two having relationship and how it works out….

    Jim Thompson Farm

In the Isaan you can also visit the company that the American founded with its own mulberry plantation and silkworm egg production center.
The estate in Nakhon Ratschasima province southwest of Korat is set against a backdrop of rolling hills covered with impenetrable shrubbery. From bamboo. You will find a unique composition of large mulberry plantations, orchards, nurseries and gardens full of colorful flowers and ornamental plants. The views are stunning. Works of art complete the whole. One of the highlights is the vast sunflower field. You can sail in a rowing boat in the lotus pond. Another garden offers flowers in seven colors. The Isan village of Kwam Yean Sampan gives a good picture of the traditional life in the Isan.
There are several restaurants with a special design. A worthy conclusion is the Isaan Samai & Bar with traditional folk music.
The Jim Thompson Farm is only open a few weeks a year from early December to early January during the absolute peak of the floral splendor. This period can change in number of days every year. It is a popular trip among Thais.
