Many foreign visitors who drive to Chiangmai via the Sanpatong Highway may miss one of the most special sights: Ngarn Anurak Pueh Muan Chon.

This Art Gallery houses rare carvings and precious pieces of pottery. The owner, Charoui Na Soonton, a former schoolteacher, has been collecting historically significant relics for 35 years. Over the years Charoui has put a considerable amount of time, effort and money into his special hobby.

About 20 years ago, the craft of woodcarving was in danger of disappearing due to the scarcity of teakwood in Thailand. Charoui toured Thailand and bought up many pieces to preserve for posterity.

You can find these pieces in his colorful museum about 20 kilometers from Chiangmai along the Sanpatong Highway, just past the Big C supermarket in Hang Dong.

If you can't find it, you can call him: 053 355 819 or 089 126 8500.
