History meets modern minimalism in the main terminal of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Suvarnabhumi airport (BKK) is Bangkok's main airport and opened on September 28, 2006. The airport is located in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province, about 30 kilometers east of Bangkok.

Suvarnabhumi pronounced "Su-wanna-phoem" literally means 'golden peninsula' or 'golden land'. The name refers to the area or empire where the Indian king Asoka lived around 250 BC. Buddhist monks sent there and which is identified by the Thai with present-day Thailand.

At 132,2 meters, the airport has the highest control tower in the world. It is equipped with the most modern equipment and can handle 76 flights per hour. In total, the construction of the airport cost 3 billion euros.
