When you walk in a market in Bangkok and you smell a whiff of sweet basil, the dish Hoy lai prik pao is not far away. This sea delight consists of small shells that are stir-fried in a wok with Prik pao. That is a paste of roasted mild chili, shallots, garlic, tamarind and coconut sugar. Sweet basil is added just before serving.

One of the tastiest dishes I ate in Thailand was in Hua Hin at a seaside restaurant. It was a combination of fried rice, pineapple and seafood, served in half a pineapple.

Fish and other seafood vendors in Bua Yai district say sales have plummeted following the outbreak of Covid-19 infections at a wholesale shrimp market in Samut Sakhon province.
