Eight out of ten people say that a comfortable bed, a picturesque view (60%), and free Wi-Fi (52%) are essential for holiday happiness. A third say staying in an apartment or holiday home with locals makes them happiest, while 24% say they enjoy meeting new people the most.
The Dutch are going on holiday again
The crisis in the travel industry seems to be over for good; in the first half of the current holiday year, the number of holidays taken by the Dutch increased by no less than 6% to 12,5 million. In the same period (October – March), the counter remained at 11,8 million a year ago.

A worldwide survey of 9.200 travelers from 31 countries shows that the Dutch love to use social media during a holiday because they are afraid of missing out, or suffer from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
The booking behavior of holidaymakers is changing rapidly. The well-known basic requirements for a holiday, such as good weather and various things you can do, are less decisive for the choice of holiday. Reporting on attacks in tourist destinations has the strongest influence on Dutch consumers.
More low-income Dutch people on holiday
At least 67% of Dutch households will go on holiday this year. This year, 1 in 5 Dutch people will stay at home, while last year this was more than a quarter. More than half (1.500%) of households with an income of less than EUR 52 net per month go on holiday. That is considerably more than last year (32%).
