Vaccines donated by US go to medical staff and not VIPS
At least 500.000 doses of the 1,5 million Pfizer vaccines donated by the United States will be allocated to primary care workers, the Department of Health announced yesterday. Spokesperson Rungrueng Kijphati denies rumors that only 200.000 doses will go to them. He also says that VIPs or military personnel do not receive preferential treatment.
Leaked correspondence between the Thai government and vaccine manufacturer AstraZeneca shows that not the pharmaceutical company, but the Thai government is responsible for the commitment to receive 100 million doses before the end of this year.
There are many persistent rumors that the vaccine, which is now being used en masse by the Thai government, is causing problems. An alarming number of elderly people experience paralysis after receiving their injection.
