April 6 is Thailand's Chakri Day, a national holiday commemorating the establishment of the royal Chakri dynasty. On Chakri Day, there are religious ceremonies in honor of the previous kings. It provides an opportunity for Thais to pay respect to the various monarchs who played an important role in shaping Thailand.
The Thai New Year celebration, Maha Songkran
The official Thai Songkran celebration is from Saturday, April 13 to Monday, April 15, but for this Monday, Thais receive another compensation day, Tuesday, April 16. Again, many institutions are not open for three days.
Chakri Day or the "Big Day" in Thailand
Wednesday, April 6, Chakri Day is celebrated. This is not a celebration in honor of a Buddha event, but the commemoration of the origin of the Chakri dynasty since the year 1782.
