If you sometimes think you know a lot about Bangkok, you will often be very disappointed. Earlier I read a story about Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok's flower and fruit market.

Never heard of it, and I thought I knew quite a bit about this metropolis. The largest flower and vegetable market in Bangkok was completely unknown to me. So take the plunge and explore to discover this phenomenon.

Going out together

Together with the readers of Thailandblog we go out to this special market. Very simply we go by public transport and this time we skip the taxi. After all, a bit of your own initiative makes a trip a lot more interesting and also more exciting. We start with the skytrain, which is accessible to almost everyone at a short distance.

In this case we depart from Sukhumvit Road to the Siam stop where the beautiful Paragon shopping complex is also located. Of course you can depart from any other boarding point as long as you get on the Silom Line at the Siam stop. At this stop we get off and go to platform 3 and take the skytrain to Wong Wian Yai. Then we get off at the Saphan Taksin stop, right on the Chao Phraya River.

Disembarked we walk to exit 2 and then stand at that great mighty river where we get on the express boat that sails to the right and get off at the Memorial Bridge stop. Please note that you take the regular express boat and not the tourist boat, because it does not stop at the Memorial bridge. In fact, this stop can be recognized from afar by the bridge that crosses the river there. When we get off the boat we walk about a hundred meters to the left and then to the right. We keep to the left and in no time end up in the middle of Pak Khlong.

Grab Khlong

Here you can stroll around and view the many different types of flowers. Large flower wreaths, flower arrangements, bunches of roses, literally bags full of all kinds of smaller flowers and many articles for floristry. In short, a whole arsenal of flowers and related items. And all for prices that will make your mouth water.

On the other side of the street you see an image, but if you dive into one of the side streets there you will end up at the gigantic vegetable market where almost everything is sold wholesale. All in all a nice trip where you can spend a while.

Walked out

If you have finished walking, a visit to Chinatown might be a nice option. Only one stop back you will arrive at the Ratchawong stop. Get off the boat there and a few hundred meters further you will end up in the middle of Chinatown.

You must have seen this a color explosion. Also good for silk flowers really cheap and the counterfeit Buddha wreaths cheap. You can also have orchids packed for home cheaper than at the airport.
Will definitely visit again hope they also sell flowers made of clay in the shops.

I once wanted to go back to Hua Lamphong after visiting Chinatown. Through the maze of streets I had gone the wrong way, and after a sweat-dripping journey of about 30 minutes earlier I happened upon Pak Khlong Talad. What a beauty of flowers and vegetables. I have never regretted this missed walk. Wrung out from the heat, but oh so happy I took a bus back to Hua Lamphong.
Later (pleasantly) went back with the express boat as Joseph suggests. But it is also possible every 15 minutes from Hua Lamphong. Bus fare was then 25 baht. YEARS ago of course.
Definitely worth a visit for everyone. I wonder if this is every day or only on the weekend.
