Maha Nakhon is a new luxury skyscraper in the Silom/Sathon business district of Bangkok. With a height of 314 meters and 77 floors, it is the tallest building in Thailand and has a Dutch touch.

The Rotterdam architectural firm GRANDMA. (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) of the world famous architect Rem Koolhaas is responsible for the design of the imposing building.

The building includes 200 units of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, but also many offices, shops and “ordinary” condominiums. Common or not, the condos cost between 1 and 17 million US$, making them the most expensive in Thailand. A detailed description (English) of the course of this US$ 620 million project can be found on Wikipedia.

On August 29, the opening ceremony took place with an impressive light show. There was a competition associated with that light show, if you have watched, taken a photo or video, you can submit it and you have a chance to win 100.000 Baht in prizes. More information about this competition can be found at: www.mahanakhon.com/bangkok-rising-live

YouTube already has some amateur videos from the show, I chose this one:

The editors rightly point out to me that Thailandblog.nl already paid attention to this mega project in 2010.

Funny thing is that they thought the building would be finished in 2012. That took a little longer….

A beautiful skyscraper and a beautiful light show. Nice that there is also a Dutch tint to it.

For the less well off there is of course always the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, 304 meters high. No longer completely state-of-the-art, but you can stay there once for roughly 100 euros per luxury room of 70m² and windows from the floor to the ceiling (this explicitly does not apply to all rooms…) per night. I recommend room 5511, in the triangle slightly above center on the brightest side, indeed on the 55th floor, or elevation if you prefer. AmazingBangkok…
