As part of the qualifying series in the Asian zone for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Thailand's home game against Australia is scheduled for November 15. Due to the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the associated mourning period, the Thai Football Association had requested that this match be postponed.

In Thailand, the regular season has been broken, although this is still under discussion due to protests from several clubs. However, Australia rejected the request for a postponement as the game is of great importance to them.

World Cup Qualifying Series

The situation in the third round of the qualifying series is that Australia competes with Japan and Saudi Arabia for the top places in the group, which entitles them to the next round. Thailand has also reached that third round, but unfortunately lost all four games played so far.

The match

The game, which will be played at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, will continue on November 15. Although match day is one day after the official 30-day mourning period, the Football Associations of Australia and Thailand have posted on their website asking their fans to respect the general atmosphere currently prevailing in Thailand before and during the match.

Behavioral guidelines

The FA Thailand website has the following guidelines for spectators of this match:

  • Clothing for both men and women should be sober, preferably in the colors white, black or gray and then without any design on that clothing. The (red) away shirt of the Thai football team is absolutely forbidden.
  • Equipment used to cheer the players, such as drums, trumpets, flags, megaphones, whistles and the like will not be allowed in the stadium.
  • Banners or anything of that nature will also not be allowed
  • Spectator chanting, chants and any other form of entertainment before and during the match is absolutely prohibited.

Finally

Now the Thai team could use some support from the public, but that would not prevent Australia from going home with three victory points. Nevertheless, my respect for Thailand, which has reached the third round nicely.
