Opened last month Suvarnabhumi Airport a special bike path. The bike path is part of a bypass that was used when the airport was under construction. Airports of Thailand says the road has been repaired and is now open to recreational cyclists.
Suvarnabhumi says it is the world's first airport that can provide cyclists with a safe environment to train or just cycle around. The link to sports is not new to Thai airports. Don Mueang Airport is perhaps the only airport in the world where you can play golf between the runways on an 18-hole golf course.
The cycle route is an extra for the many cyclists in the area. Every day, 300 to 500 cyclists drive around Suvarnabhumi Airport. AoT says that the green painted road surface is covered with a special rubber coating for extra grip in all weather conditions. The cycle track is open daily from 06.00:18.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX.
The airport is well on its way to becoming the Mecca for recreational cyclists. The preferred starting point is Suvarnabhumi 3 Road, a two-lane road that begins at the intersection near the bus station, located east of the passenger terminal. It parallels the eastern lane and is approximately 7 km long, but cyclists had to share this road with other vehicles.
With the opening of the cycle path, cyclists now have the choice of where they want to cycle. The ring road with cycle path also serves as a flood prevention barrier around the airport.
Does anyone have experience with this bike path? Tried to find the entrance on Suvarnabhumi 3 road, but bike path doesn't connect anywhere on ring road.
According to another website, the bike path is for members only. Is that correct or is it accessible to everyone.
