New poll: What's the best thing about Thailand?
Since today there is a new poll. This time we will answer the question: 'What do you like most about Thailand?'
Thailand is a popular destination with Dutch and Belgians. Some stay temporarily in the 'Land of Smiles', such as tourists or winter visitors. Others opt for permanent residence and emigrate.
Although everyone will have his or her own reason and feeling about this, it is still interesting to know whether there is a common denominator that indicates why it is pleasant to stay in Thailand.
So take part in our new poll and let us know why Thailand has stolen your heart. You can choose from 19 answers, such as climate, culture, nightlife, freedom, etc. Because you have to indicate which reason is most important to you, you can only make one choice.
The poll is as always in the left column, just scroll down a bit.
Thanks in advance for voting.
But actually the best thing about Thailand is my girlfriend. It's not in the poll. She should really only get one vote. It's MY girlfriend 😉
Of course, but I accidentally discovered that (my) treasure when I was on holiday in Thailand. Apart from my girlfriend (whom I have just as much fun with here in the Netherlands) I think the most beautiful and nicest thing about Thailand is simply the environment: nature, special temples and other special sights. Stroll around on the bonnetip and enjoy.
This just falls under the category of 'Thai ladies', if I'm not mistaken.
Yes, Sjaak, that's my choice too, strange that it's not listed. So this includes my wife. And of course the feeling of being at home, wonderful every time I land.
Another 2 months and then my house will be ready, another reason to go more often.
For me, there isn't anything specifically the best thing about Thailand. There are several factors that make me feel relaxed in Thailand.
The feeling of being welcome is very important. The fact that when we arrive here my wife feels completely at home. She can talk in her native language all day long again.
The climate is important: breakfast outside every day in shorts and a T-shirt.
Affordability is a point, if you are here it is a lot of fun for little money.
I enjoy the atmosphere in the village, which is so strongly determined by Buddhist customs and events.
And finally also the holiday feeling when we set off to explore Thailand. For Soj just as much an adventure as for me, she never used to go on holiday.
It's just wonderful to spend the winter.
The best thing about Thailand is of course the first experience as a holiday country.
Been on holiday in this country a lot. Your own ability to live out (without being difficult for anyone) and no one who makes a problem of anything. The beautiful beaches, delicious food. Beautiful weather. Friendly people. Beautiful nature and of course the land of smiles. After I retired, I moved to Thailand with my Thai wife (whom I had met during one of the holidays).
Living here is a different story. The land of smiles is not the same anymore.
If you live among that population and follow their struggle for existence, there is often no room for a smile. But what I love about those people is that there are rules, but nobody cares about them. They don't complain about nuisance from neighbors having a party. They ride motorcycles without a helmet. Phone in the car. Driving on the wrong side of the road and doing everything the rules have forbidden them. I had problems with that in the beginning. Not anymore.
I adapted myself to that. I'll keep that in mind.
It's great if you live here that all that is possible.
If you come here from the Netherlands (rule land) in a country where you can just pee on the corner of the street and they reinvent every day what new measures need to be taken to prevent breathing too much on the street. That's the best thing about Thailand.

1 What the hell does it say here?
2 And you consider it an achievement that (in Thailand I assume?) you can urinate on every corner of the street?
This does not seem to me to be an enrichment for Thailand. I'm glad that 'peeing on the corner of the street' is not an optional subject in the survey, hah!
Moderator: please respond to the statement.
What is the best thing about Thailand? That's a good question, Thailand has a certain appeal, it also feels like coming home. I have already visited several countries in Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Every country has its beauties and charms. And everywhere you have nature, culture, beaches, islands, good food, etc. but Thailand has something special (no, I don't have a Thai wife). Thailand is and remains my number 1.
The best thing about Thailand is the butt syringe. Let's be honest..And the climate of course. And don't forget the skype prime minister... (just kidding guys, don't immediately prance and send angry reactions and hand out negatives).
I think the best thing about thaland is that 99,9 percent of the population is in one way or another working to earn a living and still show a big smale.
Why I love Thailand: Thailand is chaotic, busy, full, stinks and at the same time smells good, colorful, childlike, Buddhist, is warm to very hot, has 'the best food in the world' and the most beautiful (isan) women.
Thought I could click multiple choices, but no. That's why I clicked on 'feel at home here', because that feeling at home is of course due to various factors such as good food, no problems with crime, nature and beach, climate, etc. Not to mention the friendly price level that allows me to spend the winter here comfortably.
The best thing about Thailand: Too many to mention. The weather, the food, the nature, the climate and the people.
When I first came to Thailand about 40 years ago .
I had already been to many countries. Rich and poor.
No country has ever made such a deep impression on me as Thailand.
I have thought long and often about that. And I keep coming to the conclusion that I can't really explain it very well.
So I just clicked on Culture, I think that's the closest thing to it
For me it should have been on the list.
An inexplicable attraction
Since the arrival of our Russian fellow human beings, things are getting less and less fun here.
They want the best places on the beach without paying anything for it.
They also get their snacks and drinks at 7eleven so that the beach tent owner does not earn anything from them.
Nevertheless, I will return to this wonderful country next year.

The best thing about Thailand for me is that I feel at home there, quite understandable since I have a Thai grandmother.
I think the best thing about Thailand is when you can finally get off the plane and then just go with the flow and see where you go and what happens. Delicious
I would like to see who comments here. Residents, or vacationers.
Have different opinions.

That it is so completely different,… than the Netherlands, and we all know what the Netherlands is like
I have been coming to Thailand since 1998. I'm going on vacation, I worked there through me. Dutch employer and especially I enjoy it twice a year for a longer period of time. When I land in Bangkok I am at home. I know my way around, I know the language a bit and I know what is and isn't possible. I often travel alone and sometimes with friends and family. And above all, I feel safe here as a woman alone. In Thailand there is a lot to see and do and you can (yes, yes, I remain a woman) enjoy shopping and enjoying budget-friendly luxury. I am not a backpacker but I do like a bit of luxury and the good life. Nice cycling, sunbathing and walking a lot and there is life at any time. I'm not a bar type but enjoy everything around me. There are many extremes in Thailand. When you come somewhere for so long you get to know the country and the people well and you also know the lesser sides of the country and the people with a smile. Sometimes this gives a bit of annoyance but it hasn't taken over yet so I'm already looking forward to my next visit. My motto is enjoy, stay alert and don't do things that you wouldn't do in the Netherlands then you will have a wonderful and safe stay in Thailand.
Daniel, In any case, my response makes that very clear. Is about a long time vacation and living in this great country.
J. Jordan.
For me, the nice thing about Thailand is that I am never bored for a second.
Although you sometimes have to wait a long time, you see things all around you that attract your attention.
In Thailand there should have been eight days in a week.
I think the best thing about Thailand is that besides the fact that the people are friendly, that there is a wonderful temperature and that it is still cheap for us Westerners, that there is such a large choice of many day trips, at least in Pattaya , Pukhet and Bangkok that are also cheap and allow you to enjoy a full day without having to do much more than let yourself be pampered. Went to Nong Nooch from Pattaya once and had a great day. Also made a sea trip from Phuket to James Bond island, a fully arranged trip with food and drinks on board, very well taken care of! Also a day to the floating market and Ayutaya was great. I'm sure there are countless possibilities to get through the day. Thailand really is a great holiday country!
