Thailand's flood death toll rising rapidly
In Thailand More than 500 people have already died as a result of the floods that have ravaged the country for three months.
On Wednesday there were still 427 victims, but the number has now risen to 506. More than three million people in 25 provinces have been affected by the floods.
Bangkok
There were no casualties in Bangkok for the time being, although the neighborhoods in the north and west of the capital have been under water for some time, making many main roads impassable. The business center of the city will remain dry for the time being thanks to the protection of kilometers of dikes.
Many train stations, shops and markets have also been flooded. It will probably take weeks before all the water in Bangkok has disappeared. Thousands of people have been evacuated in the capital in recent weeks.
Ayutthaya
In the central part of the country, the water began to recede this weekend. Roads can be used again in the provinces of Ayutthaya and Nakhon Sawan. People have also started repairing their houses.
According to Governor Chairote Meedaeng, 500 roads, as many temples and 144.000 hectares of pasture land were damaged in Nakhon Sawan alone, according to Governor Chairote Meedaeng.
The floods in Thailand, which started after heavy monsoon rains in July in the north and east of the country, are the worst in at least XNUMX years.
