Home » Calls » Call: Locations for filming in Bangkok and Chiang Mai wanted
Dear readers,
We are going to Thailand next month for research for a feature film. For that we are looking for a number of things. I was wondering if you could help us with this? For example, it concerns a number of locations. Perhaps you can recommend regions or suburbs for this.
We are looking for an expensive villa (neighborhood) in a rural location, with spacious mansions or estates with outbuildings surrounded by beautiful Thai nature. The rural houses where, for example, wealthy businessmen or ambassadors stay with their families when they are not in the city. We will initially focus on the areas around Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but any advice is welcome.
Thank you,
Esther
Hundreds of foreign filmmakers come to Thailand every year to shoot for feature films, documentaries, commercials, television series, etc. Thailand is happy about that, but filming here is not easy, there are rules.
Thorough research before making a film is necessary and you don't have to come to Thailand immediately for that. First read the text of both websites below:
http://thailaws.com/law/t_laws/tlaw10840.pdf
http://www.mfa.go.th/fealac/images/ThailandUpdateDoc23.doc
To obtain permission, it is advisable to engage a specialized company in Thailand, who can take care of the paperwork and can also recommend the most suitable locations.
Maybe that has all happened already, then I apologize for this comment. But even then, this reader's question with rather vague information doesn't come across as professional.
Nevertheless, I wish you every success!
In addition, a link with important information:

Thank you Gringo. We are currently in the scenario and project development phase, which means that we are now coming to Thailand to taste the atmosphere and to substantiate it with our idea. The actual realization phase and the associated production elaboration are only relevant in the second instance. We ask the readers of this Blog precisely because you are well known locally and hopefully have good tips outside the clichés. We are looking for an Aerdenhout or a Vecht region in Thailand and tips are still more than welcome. Of course also many thanks for your links, we will definitely check them out.
I think it is best for you to contact the Thai tourist office in the Netherlands or the Thai embassy. Perhaps the Dutch embassy in Bangkok can also provide useful information.
Many well-situated Bangkok (business) people live about 150-200Km north of Bangkok or have their country residence there. It is the area between Highway 2 (to Korat), north of the Kao Yan national park and highway 304, which also goes to Korat. Here are several top golf links, exclusive hotels, international restaurants, different wine-growing areas and completely secluded top private housing complexes. The nature around the Kao Yai national park is -amazing-.
I speak from extensive experience here, because I live about 80 km away and am there regularly. Good luck.
Hello Esther,
As an old photo and TV model I think I know what you are looking for. I live in Chiang Rai myself. A place that will develop more and more like the Wasser and Aerdenhout of Thailand. If you want to view my house you can find it on airbnb.
I won't tell you all the details just yet. If the above is reason for you to discuss this further, I will hear or see your reaction.
Good luck.
Best regards. Gert Richter
Dear Esther
There are real expat neighborhoods that do indeed have a certain Aerdenhout character, eg the neighborhood around the American school at the old airport. The Vechtstreek atmosphere is more likely to be found in Chiang Mai. Peter van Loo (former Honorary Consul) and Frans Captijn (Villa Asia) can probably help you on your way. Also take a look at the site of Ban Ing Phu (Hua HIn), owned by a Dutchman and with representation in the Netherlands.
Good luck, Edith
Have some excellent filming locations on Lake Mabprachan and the Bang Sare area where I have previously filmed with various foreign production companies. Just call 0812907310 or email; [email protected]
Hello Ester,
Nice to hear that beautiful Chiangmai is also being looked at, I have an excellent one for you
film locations, in Hangdong Chiangmai a large villa park, live there myself have a large house with a
guest house in the garden and a swimming pool for filming, you can use it, you can call me
on +668 38441216 or email to [email protected]
greetings pascal
Hello, we live 23 km from Chiang Mai in a bungalow with swimming pool in the middle of the rice fields and against the mountains, a perfect location for making a film, see our site http://www.trottermoggy.com, there you can see our house, see also video of our balloon flight above our house. Greetings Kees and Els from Eindhoven. We drove from the Netherlands to Thailand in 2006 with our Mercedes Unimog.
Thank you all for the many good tips! We're going to work on it.
