Do you know what a “flash mob” is? Well, I didn't know, but now I do, and how! It started with a video I was shown of a “spontaneous” performance by a whole group of people in the hall of the station in Antwerp of a song from the Sound of Music. It started with two people and gradually more people came from every nook and cranny, until the entire hall was occupied by a crowd dancing in sync. Beautiful!

A flash mob is therefore a music and/or dance performance in public for an audience that is completely surprised by it. I have now watched dozens of them, performed them in stations, at an airport, in a large shopping center, etc. Usually it is sponsored by a company – in Antwerp it was the VTM – but it could be a pre-announcement of a music festival.

Of course, as the Netherlands, I had to set something against Antwerp and saw several flash mobs at Schiphol and Central Station. But, as I said, I've seen many with classical music, but also with popular hip-hop sounds. My favorite became a performance of part of the Carmina Burana in Vienna, but I have "visited" Hong Kong, Lisbon (KLM), Grenoble, Rio del Plata, Szombathely, Liverpool and many more.

And what about Thailand? Well, the Thais are not left out either. Google "flash mobs in Thailand" and several beautiful videos will appear on your screen. And by beautiful I mean the joy that the participants radiate and the joyful faces of the unsuspecting spectators.

As an example for Thailand I could choose from about eight flash mobs, I chose this one:
