Take a chance with and on a Thai cruise boat

The Island Escape

Gambling is in Thailand strictly forbidden. Not that everyone adheres to that, but still. However, Thai people like to gamble on anything and everything. To avoid the legal cliffs, the solution is now looming behind the horizon: a cruise boat, where the Thai on board can go about their business without hindrance.

Floating Las Vegas is the name of the ship in the brochure that has now been distributed in circles who can afford a cruise. The biggest guess is the proposed participation in ownership of such a boat. From 100.000 THB you are a partial owner.

The organizer of the whole, Iti Puknilrata of BTK Holding Group of Companies in Bangkok, not only guarantees a free cruise, but also 10 percent interest over the first ten years and your investment back over three years. That's too good to be true and maybe it is, because the website is still under construction. Mr. Iti (64) says he graduated in political science in the US and founded the Sereechon, the oldest Thai daily newspaper in the US. His plan is to have three to five ships calling at more than 80 major ports in the world by 2012. That is, if the investors cooperate.

The brochure shows a multitude of beautiful cruise ships, but the first example is said to be Island Escape, owned by the British Sunshine Cruises LTD and chartered by Thomson Cruises. The ship mainly cruised in the Mediterranean Sea, is decorated with 3 stars and has 761 cabins for a total of 1500 to 1700 passengers (this information comes from the internet and not from the brochure). The Island Escape was built in 1982 and renovated in 2002. The purchase price is USD 45 million. The transfer must take place between 1 and 10 November at the port of Limassol in Cyprus. It is noteworthy that ABN-AMRO Singapore acts as guarantor in the project.

The supplied DVD clearly shows what kind of ship it is. Nice, but not the usual luxury. Nice is the photo of a messy cabin with bunk beds. Those huts are of course for Thai people who have gambled a little too much.

Such a gambling ship also sailed for about six or seven years. At the time, it was "ambushed" by the Thai navy/police in the Thai Gulf on the way to Bangkok. A number of people were arrested and the "gambling party" was over.
I think this is going to be a big gamble where you have a good chance of a big loss.
