Special wedding in Sing Buri

In Thailand there are many foreigners who are married to a Thai lady where the age difference is significant. In a few cases we have our own thoughts about this, but in general we are not surprised (anymore). It will be special when an Australian man aged 74 marries a Thai lady aged 68.

The marriage, which recently took place in an elaborate Thai wedding ceremony in tambon Tonpho in Sing Buri province, received quite a bit of attention in the Thai press and other media.

Noel Sunder led a traditional “khan mark” or dowry procession to the home of Pemikar Mueansri and formally requested permission from the woman's parents to marry his bride. Whether that was really the parents (how old were they?) or that it happened symbolically, the messages do not mention.

They were married in a "rod nam sung" ceremony, where parents (?), relatives and the guests poured water on their hands to bless them for a happy marriage. The ceremony and wedding party was attended by many peers, family and neighbors.

Pemikar said that she has become happy to marry the man she has known for three years. She speaks good English because she once worked as a cook in Cyprus, the message states. She likes Sunder, he is lively and funny. He loves her family and is a good man. It is very important to Pemikar that her daughter and grandchildren accept him and have no objections to the marriage.

When asked how she felt about getting married at that age, Pemikar said she is happy someone loves her at this age. According to her daughter, Pemikar actually did not want to get married, but Sunder insisted that they marry according to the Thai tradition.

Whether a honeymoon took place and where to is not known, in any case, the couple will live in their newly built house in Sing Buri.

    Hi Gringo,

My first reaction was when I read the ages: "Hey, how nice, another happy older couple"

We experienced this once years ago in the Netherlands and you also heard comments about why this was necessary at this age.

Wonderful, growing old together, still doing things or just being together.

I wish this couple many happy and pleasant years.

    Gringo,
Those are stories we need. True love still exists.
    Also in Thailand.
