Some families in Hua Hin will be surprised to see a bar in Hua Hin, the bar is entirely in the style of the famous Danish amusement park Tivoli.

The bar 'Little Tivoli' is a meeting place to pick up prostitutes, writes the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. The majority of the customers in the bar are from Denmark. Pictures of the theme park are on the walls.

The amusement park Tivoli itself reacts furiously. "We will do everything we can to stop this unsound and improper use of our name," said a spokesman. The park's legal department has therefore launched an investigation. “This is absolutely unacceptable,” says a lawyer. “It is against our good name and reputation.”

If Tivoli starts a process for this name and it succeeds, at least 200 bars in Pattaya can also close their doors if the trend continues.
Just think of the Disney bar, Madame Tussaud bar, Tabarin bar, Lucky strike bar, Pokémon bar etc……..

    what's in a name ?????

Asian: “copyright” interpretation = right to copy…

By the way: ever met a Thai who had come up with something completely new? I haven't yet and have been coming to TH for business since 1993.

Tivoli is the name of an Italian city. Used by the Danes to name an amusement park.
I think there is an Italian who doesn't like this. But you don't hear them grumbling.
Maybe hang a sign on the door of the bar.
Banned for Danes with childhood trauma and warning for amusement park photos.

Well, in Utrecht there is pop stage Tivoli, in Leeuwarden cinema Tivoli, Stadion Tivoli in Aachen, SsangYong has the Tivoli model, former (amusement) parks in Paris and Vienna bore the same name and I could go on and on. The town of Tivoli in Italy has probably had this name longer than all the examples mentioned. So let's not just dismiss the Thai as little original.
The question then is whether you could register and protect a brand name that already exists as a place name. Seems very difficult to me. Suppose I call my bar in Amsterdam 'Bangkok Bar'. Little chance that I can register that as an exclusive brand name.
And if possible, I would of course also have to register the trademark 'Tivoli' or 'Bangkok' in Thailand before I can enjoy any protection there.
Then there is the question of whether the use of the brand name of an amusement park by a bar constitutes an infringement of the law. That is by no means certain. Fiat Croma and Croma Bake and Braad can also pass through one door.
Amusement park Tivoli in Berg en Dal still has the best chance of being tackled successfully, but since the opening of the park in Berg en Dal in 1930, people in Copenhagen have apparently never had a need or seen the opportunity for this.
In any case, it is a way for both companies to gain free publicity.

In Pattaya, we managed to get the Rolling Stones bar to change its name.
And what happened to that coffee bar in Bangkok that used a name and logo similar to Starbucks?

It is already known that when you read TIVOLI backwards it says I LOVE IT.

    Very appropriate, so no problem.

    I love it !!!!
