Scams via the internet occasionally have remarkable situations. A gang of con artists use the portrait of British Prime Minister David Cameron to persuade Thai women to enter into a relationship with the prospect of marriage. However, they first had to transfer large sums of money, which often happened.

According to Pornnapat Chartphuek, manager of a Thai Anti-Scam website, it is mostly Nigerian gangs that extort money from marriageable Thai women in this way. In this way it would certainly work 585.000 euros have been embezzled.

The women who responded were promised marriage. However, they first had to pay the tax on expensive gifts or open a bank account with money in the name of their future husband. A Thai woman even lost 23 million baht to this scam.

Pornnapat receives about 15 to 20 reports a day from women who smell danger or are already victims. The perpetrators mainly use Facebook and chat applications with which they make friends with the women. They used pictures of good-looking farangs or foreign politicians, such as David Cameron, and pretended to be wealthy bachelors. According to him, the scam is well put together and Thai women are also part of the gang. They must convince the victims to transfer money anyway.

A report has now been made to the police, but the question is whether they can do anything about it.

I can still understand that the ladies do not recognize someone like David Cameron: do not watch international news, etc. Many Dutch people would not recognize Prayut, Yingluck, Abhisit or major figures from the region either. But if you meet someone nice, you at least want to chat via webcam, right? And if things start to get a bit serious with the relationship, then you want to see each other in real life before you pay large amounts or advance? Transferring a few bucks to someone you only know through chat and email goes a long way. Unfortunately, some people's mind goes to zero when you are presented with a thick sausage.

Good to keep in mind: if it's too good to be true, it probably is. And if you get into a relationship, meet each other first before you really invest fully in your relationship and no, don't advance the plane ticket... Don't mistrust your fellow man, but be aware of scammers, thieves and liars.

I can't believe there are still such stupid people. Do they really have such a need to get married and money seeks money, that often plays a role. The so-called Nigerian article 419 scam has been known for years, you would think, apparently those people live in an ivory tower. There have been reports about this before in the Netherlands, and entire villages are involved in Nigeria. Computers running 24 hours a day, working overtime and taking advantage of souls searching all over the world. Men are also often victims of this phenomenon. The Nigerians in question do not think they are doing anything wrong, they place the responsibility on whoever is stupid enough to fall for this. The Nigerian government and police do little to combat this in their country. It is certainly not without danger because the groups can act violently. In the Netherlands I once had a Swedish man come to the office who was very concerned about his girlfriend who was supposed to be at Schiphol with problems with the police. He had just flown in from Sweden and could not find her. He showed me photos on his cell phone of a very beautiful tanned woman and from the emails it was clear who was behind this. It had already cost him thousands of euros. Already solved a number of scam cases in the Bijlmer in Amsterdam. Always the same song you find there. Usually Nigerians with often fake passports, how could it be otherwise. I looked at the article cited and they were clearly fake passports. Holder sheets provided with false photographs and the texts were also forged. Different size, font and dates incorrect. I would almost think that a blind person could also see this, but yes, love is blind. Groups of Nigerians with Thai partners also stay in Bangkok and much more investment is needed there. Those men are there for a reason. As long as these types of amounts are still paid, the mop will remain open and the last thing has not been said about this yet.

What pathetic and unworldly people, to continue to mark that as love makes blind? Stupid, oh so stupid to fall for this so easily and that for, say, an amount of no less than 23 million? If you can invest so much, then I also wonder how you must not have earned that money, so much stupidity and yet so much money?
Unfortunately, it will not be the last lady.
Tackling those scammers hard and a lot and quickly, that is.

Not only Thai women who are present on a dating site are cheated.
Men are cheated in the same way. When I was still active on a dating site, they did
tried several times. It goes like this, Nice Thai lady with a nice profile
they happen to be on holiday or with sick relatives in Nigeria.
Of course the question comes to send money quickly. They will avoid Skype or personal contact with
an excuse and to the question of a photo by e-mail where she is in the newspaper of the day
she or he will never respond. They have not been able to get a euro from me because I have more sense than money.

There are even groups of Nigerians who do not shy away from Skype contact. When the fish has bitten and people think they can get more, attractive ladies also come in front of the camera with sad stories, which they are listened to by refined men. This was also shown in one of those reports. It is played really professionally. Practice makes perfect, you just have to think.

There is also often greed among Thai women. An acquaintance of my wife also got to know a Nigerian, and she asked him to finance a house for her after 2 chats. He wanted that. He sent her a package of money via London, which she could pick up at the UK Embassy in BKK. To receive the necessary papers with which she could prove that she was the owner of that package, she first had to send 50 baht. She did so, after which it turned out that the shipment of the package and papers was constantly delayed. This could be remedied by depositing money again. She did that too. A third time could be prevented by the intervention of a sister. The person concerned not only lost money, but also face, because she had informed everyone in her family and circle of acquaintances that she would soon have a villa of a house in her name. Be that as it may: suddenly she had moved elsewhere in the blink of an eye. Greed, stupidity, wanting to outsmart the other, outdoing, twisting a leg: the NL language has countless expressions for these kinds of phenomena.
