Thailand remains the most popular distant destination for the Dutch
Despite the tensions, Thailand is and will remain the most popular holiday destination for the Dutch this year. Many compatriots booked a flight to the 'Land of Smiles' in the traditionally busy booking month of January.
New York and Curaçao are then in the top 3 of most booked long-haul flights, just like last January, in second and third place respectively. As far as European destinations are concerned, Barcelona remains the undisputed number one, according to the most recent booking data from CheapTickets.nl.
Thailand has been a winner for years. Also last year and the years before, the country was number 1 in the list of popular distant holiday destinations. “More than 200.000 Dutch people come to Thailand every year and the number is growing every year,” said Olya van der Kraan of the Thai Tourist Board. “We are pleased that many people have booked a trip to Thailand again this year and are not deterred by the local unrest. As usual, people can enjoy all the ingredients that Thailand has to offer: beautiful old temples, bustling cities, beautiful bounty beaches, untouched jungle, delicious food and excellent wellness facilities. Thailand is known as a 'value for money' destination. Also not unimportant in times of crisis.”
