12 million Dutch people go on summer vacation
This summer, almost 7 out of 10 Dutch people want to go on holiday, that is almost 12 million Dutch people. Compared to last year, this is an increase of 240.000 holidays (+2%). More than 8,7 million Dutch people are expected to go abroad this summer (+2%), mainly in Europe. More than 2,5 million Dutch people opt for a long summer holiday in their own country (+1%).
It is striking that the Dutch prefer a holiday abroad, but prefer not to go too far away. In addition, more than half a million Dutch people have plans to leave this summer, but the destination is still unknown. This is shown by large-scale research NBTC-NIPO Research recently carried out into the holiday plans of the Dutch population.
There is also a slight increase of 1 percent for long summer holidays in the Netherlands. Furthermore, approximately half a million people still have holiday plans, but have not yet determined a destination.
About 20 percent of all summer holidays are spent in the Netherlands. Gelderland and Limburg are especially popular. Bungalows and campsites are the most popular accommodations.
