This time a good example of a joint venture between a Thai company and a Dutch company: Thai Tank Terminal on the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong province, creating an absolute market leader in tank storage.

Thai Tank Terminal (TTT) is a joint venture of PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTTGC) – Thailand's largest and Asia's leading integrated petrochemical and refining company – and Royal Vopak NV – the world's largest independent tank storage service provider.

More about PTTGC

PTT Global Chemical Public Co.Ltd. is the result of a merger of PTT Chemicals and PTT Aromatic and Refining. The company has a production capacity of 8,2 million tons per year for olefins and aromatics and 280.000 barrels per day for petroleum. This makes it the largest in Thailand and also one of the largest in Asia. For more details see the website: www.pttgcgroup.com

More about Royal Vopak NV

Royal Vopak is the largest independent tank storage company in the world. Vopak has its own tank terminals, but is involved in 84 terminals in 31 countries worldwide. The group can rely on 400 years of experience in storage and transshipment. See website:www.vopak.nl of www.vopak.com (English)

A historical overview of the developments and activities of the company and its most important predecessors: Blaauwhoedenveem, Pakhuismeesteren van de Thee, Van Ommeren and Pakhoed can also be viewed on the website.

Vopak will celebrate its 400th anniversary next year. For a nice video about this 400th anniversary, see www.youtube.com/watch?v=amal_E2JG98&feature=youtu.be There is another video behind this video that gives an interesting look at the construction of a new terminal in Rotterdam.

Thai Tank Terminal, Rayong

TTT was founded in 1992 partly in response to the Thai government's policy to promote petrochemical and heavy industry. The purpose of its establishment was to build a facility for independent tank storage for petrochemical and petroleum products.

The tank terminal was realized on the Map Ta Thut Industrial Estate, which is completed with four deep-sea berths with a draft of 12,5 metres. In addition to tank storage, TTT also offers services such as truck loading and mixing of liquids. Depending on the product, heating, cooling and a nitrogen blanket are provided.

The Dutchman Martijn Schouten has been Deputy Managing Director of the company since the beginning of this year. He comes from the ranks of Vopak, where he has gained a wealth of experience in several positions.

With its excellent location and good maritime infrastructure, TTT certainly has a successful future ahead of it.

Thai Tank Terminal (TTT) was established Oct.1992 as a joint venture with NPC (National Petrochem Corp.) 51% and Paktank int.(operator of Pakhoed) 49% as shareholders.
With the deal that Paktank collects. the Management for a period of the first 6 years with the aim of building and developing the development of the new terminal (also from the drawing board) in such a way that a professional infrastructure would arise to load and unload both Seagoing vessels and tank trucks with a wide range of Chem liquids and gases to subsequently supply the industrial hinterland (mainly MapTa Phut) with raw materials, via an extensive pipeline network.

It is fantastic for me personally to read that the above objective has been a good choice. I have been very involved in the creation of "TTT" from October 1992 to October 1995 as the first Terminal Manager, great challenge and have been very busy with training, development in the broadest sense, building designs, recruiting personnel, training, solving ad hoc (day by day) situations, decisions that must be taken in order not to hinder progress, not to mention the necessary start-ups (commissioning) of finished terminal parts.

The Management was split into BKK (general manager) and MTP (terminal manager and project manager) with regular meetings, necessary to maintain coordination and overview.

      Some interesting facts:

-1992 we had no tugboats in MTP that had to come from Sattahip to assist seagoing vessels with entering and leaving the port (for that reason the tugboats remained in the port during the entire manipulation, sometimes up to 30 hours, this was not cost efficient !
-1995 (shortly before my departure) made a deal with harbor authorities and (current) tugboat comp. to keep tugboats on stand-by station in MTP harbour.
-1994 Established the Harbor Committee, with all relevant companies, Pilot, etc. (serves public interest)
-1994: TTT was the first in the MTP (and nationally in its business) to be ISO 2001(2009) certified.
-NPC has now been merged into PTT.
      - Vopak was created in 2001 by the merger of Pakhoed with Van Ommeren.

Hopefully the described is not too technical and therefore a bit readable.

Nothing is impossible, Eddy, not even in Thailand.
In addition to Martijn Schouten, there will undoubtedly be more foreigners working at TTT in staff positions.

What are you waiting for, send them an email with an open application.
    Success with it!

  3. Bob Moerbeek says up

Great company, I enjoyed working there for 10 years.
In the meantime, more than 10 years away and working in oil drilling all over the world.
Rob, if you read, send an email to [email protected] Haven't heard anything for far too long.

    Bob
