Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusritipak wants the western coastal provinces of Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Ranong, develop into the Riviera of Thailand. This is remarkable because this plan was originally launched by Thaksin in 2005.
The project includes the construction of a 680 km long road with a cycle path along the coastline. About 200 km has already been completed, 49 km are still being worked on. The road is expected to be completed in 5 years.
The plan also provides attractions at Hua Hin, such as a marina, hotels, a renovation of Hua Hin station, tourist attractions, footpaths at the mouth of the Pranburi River and observation points for whales and dolphins.
A second zone of 100 to 200 km should then be in Prachuap Khiri Khan and a third zone of 250 to 300 km between Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon. Five-star hotels, marinas, tourist attractions, etc.
The cabinet will discuss the plan tomorrow in Phetchaburi as well as a four-year plan for the development of agriculture, industry and tourism in the four provinces.
Another plan that will be discussed is the construction of the 211 km long HSL Bangkok – Hua Hin. Construction is expected to take three years and cost 94 billion baht. The cabinet is also discussing the construction of two double-track routes: Nakhon Pathom – Chumphon (420 km) and the new Chumphon – Songkhla project.

I wonder where they get all that money from for all those infrastructure projects, I read here about one billion-dollar project after another.
If even the toppers of the country are so frugal that they borrow watches instead of buying them, then that should not be a problem…
Yes, and in the meantime there is still no money to renovate the road that leads from one large village to another.
Every day many people ride on their mopeds and by car from one bomb crater to another bomb crater to go to work.
Jan Beute.
I wouldn't be surprised if the funding comes from China as the Chinese are taking bigger and bigger stakes in both Thailand and Laos that they're already sort of buying up.
And of course we should not forget that the Thai, Indian, Arab and Chinese billionaires will invest in newly developed tourist attractions if the infrastructure is good and that is still far from the case.
Great… I don't live on the coast yet, but close by… I think it's exciting to experience this.
Is it time that I can buy that beautiful house in Pak Nam Pran… it will be worth ten times that in five years!
All kidding aside, I find it really interesting. Especially since I live near Hua Hin….
Ranong is located on the Andaman Sea, and not on the Gulf of Siam like the other cities mentioned
Very well seen. But that does not alter the fact that it is a beautiful western coastal province of Thailand.
