Taxi fares in Thailand will go up next month
The minister of transport announced yesterday that the second increase in taxi fares will also continue next month. In December the rates were already increased by 8 percent.
An additional 7% will be added, bringing the total increase to 15%. There are conditions attached to the increase. For example, taxi drivers must always turn on the meter and are no longer allowed to refuse rides.
The surcharge that passengers pay from Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi will also increase. For normal taxis from 50 to 60 baht and for five-door taxis from 50 to 80 baht. However, the minister does not rule out that Airports of Thailand will pay for the increase and that tourists will no longer have to pay.

If you take a taxi with your Thai partner you generally have no problem, but if Farang is alone then you are a grateful victim. I had to go from Sapphan Kwai to Sukohmvit at 9 o'clock in the evening. Taxis hailed, various options offered, too far, too dangerous, I take you to beautiful women, etc. I rejected them all, And then a green/yellow taxi, older driver and neat, no problem, I was at my hotel in 10 minutes , not even 50 Bath, I gave him 100 Bath, he is happy and I am happy! That's another way to do it!
As a foreigner I very rarely have problems with taxis, about once every five years. Of course I have the advantage that I speak Thai. I have experienced before that during a ride where the meter indicates 105 baht, the taxi driver says “just give 100 baht”.
Even with a Thai partner they don't want to turn on the meter, meter broken he said, and then it ticks nicely.
“Another 7% will be added, bringing the total increase to 15%. There are conditions attached to the increase. For example, taxi drivers must always turn on the meter and are no longer allowed to refuse rides.”
See, I think that's a good deal.
I now have a regular taxi that usually takes me from pattaya to suvarnabumi. Because you talk to the driver a little longer, you realize that they really don't earn anything if they drive on the meter.
Maybe after the increase fortunately.
How much are you paying if I may ask?
Pattaya – Suvarnabhumi was about ฿1200 after the first increase on the meter, so that will now be about ฿1300 (plus toll).
But everywhere in Pattaya they will take you to Suvarnabhumi for ฿ 1000 (taxi meter) or ฿ 1200 (private car) (including toll).
No problem. I take a taxi almost every day. Never any problems with the meter. They can earn a little more from me. The problem cases can be found around certain tourist hotspots and that will always be the case. Scammers remain scammers… they never learn that, no matter what measure one takes.
