Delay for second terminal Suvarnabhumi
The Ministry of Transport has not yet given permission for the construction of a second terminal at Suvarnabhumi. Airports of Thailand's current plan should take more into account all other infrastructure projects.
The ministry has asked Airports of Thailand, the manager of the six major airports, to review the plans and take into account other infrastructure developments such as the expansion of U-Tapao airport and HSL airport. AoT should also involve other parties in the plan, such as the service that deals with the development of the aviation industry in Thailand.
Chaiwat of the Ministry of Transport therefore does not think that the plan for the second terminal will get the green light at the next meeting of the AoT board. If the plan is rejected, AoT will have to come up with a completely new plan, he says.
AoT fears delays and insists on approval because the airport is heavily congested. The airport now handles 70 million passengers a year, significantly more than its original capacity of 40 million.
The plan was to start using the new terminal in 2022 or 2023, but it is questionable whether that will work.

They'd better start repairing Suvarnabhumi's runways first.
Stakeholders have been complaining about this for almost 3 years!
Well then I don't know they are all building now.
Looks a lot like a terminal but I could be wrong.

Yes, I have also seen a construction under construction for several years as Fred says and it does not seem to me that it is a sports hall or an indoor swimming pool.
I wonder if anyone knows more about it.
That's Airport City: https://www.thailandblog.nl/vliegtickets/de-aot-gaat-airport-city-ontwikkelen-op-1623-rai/
The pennies will run out for sure.
If a second terminal is added to SWAMPY too soon, U-TAPAO threatens to remain unprofitable for a long(er) time.
The demands of the SWAMPY lobby for a quick expensive follow-up investment to solve the “runway problems” also threaten to gain strength and urgency … and each baht can only be spent once. So …
The good people who want to fear "commerce" at the former military airport that a 2nd SWAMPY terminal will literally be a big blow to their account at U-TAPAO.
That danger has now been averted. After all, those same good people are in charge of the Ministry of Transport. They send the SWAMPY lobby into AOT walking with their plans for a 2nd terminal. This gives U-TAPAO the lead and the “commerce” of the good people there gets “a flying start”.
Show who is the real boss! Serving personal commercial interests ... as usual ... as a good family man ... and of course purely in the interest of the country 🙂
