While the traffic chaos in Bangkok is normally already of special proportions, it will get even worse this year, especially in the northern part of the capital. There is a lot of work being done, not only figuratively but also literally.

There are 11 major infrastructure projects, four of which are already operational: the Purple Line (Tao Poon – Khlong Bang Phai), Blue Line (Bang Sue – Hua Lamphong), Green Line (Mo Chit – Samut Prakan) and the Light Green Line (National Stadium – Bang Wa).

Work is ongoing on the Red Line (Bang Sue – Rangsit), Green Line (Mo Chit – Saphan Mai-Khu Khot), Pink Line (Min Buri – Khae Rai), Orange Line (Thailand Cultural Center – Min Buri), Yellow Line (Ratchada – Samrong), extension of the Blue Line (Ta Poon – Tha Phra) and Blue Line extension (Hua Lamphong – Bang Kae, coming into operation in September).

Given the many projects, part of Bangkok is a major construction site, with the necessary consequences for traffic. But of course it always has to get worse before it gets better.
