There seems to be no end to the ping-pong about the increase in taxi fares. Contrary to previous reports, the increase in taxi fares has again been postponed by 5 percent. Prime Minister Prayut has personally ensured that it will not take place. The Ministry of Transport should first ensure that taxi drivers stop scamming tourists.

Prayut is not happy with drivers overcharging passengers, especially drivers operating from Suvarnabhumi. There are still complaints that they don't turn on the meter or they turn off the meter half way through the ride and charge an absurdly high amount.

Transport minister Arkhom says that the fare increase will remain suspended as long as there is no end to the complaints of charging too much for a ride or refusing passengers, the latter is also common. There are also complaints from female passengers about sexual misconduct by taxi drivers.

In 2014, the ministry agreed to a 13 percent rate increase in two phases. The second phase of 5 percent was conditional on improving services and was supposed to start in March, but was also postponed.

With a one-off scam of say 500 or 1000 THB, you are much better off than with 5% more income from the meter, right? And is "cheating" also only driving at an agreed, therefore far too high price?
Although it is a good signal from the general. Now to tackle the "farang you pay more" entrance fees?

What is also very inconvenient for most passengers, that you have to hail different taxis every now and then, whether they are willing to make a certain trip at all. Especially if there is a lot of traffic in a certain direction, they refuse to drive in that direction. We had to go from Surawong to Suvarnabhumi Airport 3 days ago, we had already loaded our luggage, when the taxi driver asked if we agreed with the fact that he did not drive on a meter, but for a fixed price. Both my wife (Thai) and I also speak Thai, and have made it clear to him that he had to drive on the meter, and that I will not be scant with a good tip in a large traffic, so that he will at least would be paid for his extra lost time. Unfortunately he acted tough and didn't want to drive, so we got our suitcases out of the taxi again. Now many will say if he refuses to turn on the meter, then you just take another taxi, only if you are bound to a certain time, it is very difficult. The Thai government should not only make the meter compulsory, but also that the driver is obliged to take an order, and not as it is now that they can only accept the fillet pieces. A taxi driver just has to learn that this is his job, and if he continues to refuse, stay home and revoke the permit. All this must of course take place with reasonable payment.

From the airport not much improved two times suitcases in early a ridiculous amount to the city.
Now we do it differently was surprised Rush taxi asks to Pattaya 1200 baht including toll road.
If we like it we will also go back with Rush that is 1500. Bayoki tower crisis to come back. Usury prices 1000 baht through the intervention of a police official who stood there and I asked, the meter turned on.
Of course we always tip. Not much improved but not a meter then we get out don't argue anymore.
