The Thai government aims to be the first country in ASEAN to completely eliminate rabies, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said.

Thailand has reported just three rabies infections so far this year, far fewer than in recent years, Opas Kankawinpong, the DDC's acting director-general, said on Wednesday. He was speaking at a meeting to discuss government policy on eradicating rabies and improving protection against avian flu and other strains of flu.

Dr. Opas, who chaired Wednesday's meeting in Nonthaburi, said the DDC is continuing measures to eradicate rabies, such as preventive vaccination of certain groups. If this goal were achieved in the near future, Thailand would become the first ASEAN member state to be “rabies-free,” according to the DDC.

Only three people have been infected with rabies so far this year, in Sa Kaeo, Nong Khai and Si Sa Ket, and all three have died from the disease. She neglected to seek medical attention after being infected.

Incidentally, not only dogs transmit the disease. Foxes, cats, bats, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, monkeys, jackals, mongooses and other wild carnivorous animals can also transmit the disease. Rabies is an infectious disease caused by a virus. Rabies can be transmitted to humans through the bite, scratch, or lick of an infected animal. Infection leads to nerve symptoms, if medical help is not sought, the disease is fatal.

Of course, it's not just rabbies, but Thailand has a rampant dog problem. I myself have adopted six mutts, four of them had jumped out of the car on a deserted road, which cost at least THB 800000, and could have starved to death there. Two thousand THB for sterilization is something you can't show off in front of your neighbors. Grafting only means carrying water to the sea, a combination of grafting and reducing numbers is what needs to be done. Give every Thai with a bitch a voucher for sterilization, make collective agreements with the vets and make it a win-win situation. .

Thailand has had just as many projects over the course of many decades to get rid of ownerless dogs because that is often where the problem lies.
From exporting to neighboring countries as a delicacy [illegal] for people there to proper sterilization in the hope that offspring will not be forthcoming.
Many Thais don't really see the offspring of those animals as their animals if one knows it at all.
Free vaccination was also possible years ago, I don't know if that is still the case.
Very slowly things are moving in the right direction, I have the impression in this region.
I see fewer dogs than years ago and less aggressive when I'm on my bike.
Although I still have a wooden stick along the frame and it stays there too.
People themselves are also beginning to understand that letting your animal run after someone like a mad dog is not normal.
The golden mean is hard to find to get people and dogs on the right track.

    All mammals can transmit rabies.

    Not just carnivorous (carnivorous) animals.

    Arjen.

What a very nice and efficient initiative!
Rather, I would like the government to initiate a large-scale sterilization. Are we and the entire population rid of all dog problems in the long term?
Because a dog bite, with or without rabies, is no fun (I speak from experience). And plenty of dogs that bite just because they are frustrated by all kinds of traumas during growing up.

As far as frustration is concerned, I also have such a dog who was bullied almost daily by a bunch of children in front of the fence because he reacted so well to it. Years later he managed to escape and put his teeth into one of them to show that you shouldn't mock...something like the Rolo commercial https://youtu.be/EwanPC3Bn6s
Mother of that child completely upset but after explaining that such a thing does not come out of the blue and that she herself had failed to raise her child properly, such as learning that good parentage does not mean that you can just start bullying others without any consequence.
The interaction between man and dog can sometimes be compared quite well with the current protests and knowing man, the dog will not win ... at most sometimes bite. The highest possible compensation.
By the way, I paid the damage with love and have benefited from it for years and that is not meant politically.
